Yeah, that's the biggest difference. The balls aren't making any decisions, just obeying gravity, but there is a measurable performance in their ranking.
This got me curious, and wikipedia says that zero player games are considered to either by deterministic (conway's game of life) or AI vs AI
There's a couple demos or music videos I've seen in PICO-8 that's as close as I've seen. Rock for metal and mer ork come to mind, but most of it seems to be tiny productions

The zero-player game is an insufficiently explored #pico8 space, now that I think about it. This is the only example that leaps to mind (and it's a gem, for the record).

I think it's kind of a catch 22, you need to dev to drive engagement but you need the metrics to justify dev. it can feel like posting in to the void. personally i just started making games for me, but that doesn't attract the numbers
