There is definitely research that backs up reading fluency and there are starting to be some good interventions being used through the English Hubs in primary - hopefully you’ll see that coming through.But IME it really does improve reading.
while the reality is it’s about vocabulary and knowledge.
So if you get a SATs mark two then it will only exacerbate the issue not make things better.
Well we test the curriculum for everything else in KS2 except reading. It’s because the STA and the Reading Framework/research and evidence are at odds. The former holds onto the ideas that reading is a set of transferable skills we need to teach

After reading this piece in @schoolsweek.bsky.social by @bennewmark.bsky.social, I'm hurtling towards the conclusion that schools should be legally exempt from following interventions listed in an EHCP if they are not backed by high-quality evidence.
