Alas, it had gotten caught in a spider's web, and the spider (much smaller than the bee, by the way!) was busy packaging dinner

several minutes later, the bumblebee's buzzes had changed.
out of curiosity i headed over the window to have a look at what was happening--perhaps it had landed on some of the plants in the house?

i opened another window hoping it would fly out
reminds me of the time i was bashing out my #PhD thesis
a friendly bumblebee came to visit and didn't really know how to get out of the house

woke: Dont be so careful in time of death
Requiring linkable doi's in papers' reference lists 1) increases findability of refs & 2) decreases friction to uncovering the fake refs everyone's talking about. Latter is merely a technical solution to a moral/systemic issue, but still: many benefits and trivial to implement from ref managers ๐งช
i also really enjoyed #Nimona (2023 film) and #Arcane (2021 TV series)
Meanwhile, an animated movie that is DEEPLY, undeniably tied to Korean culture went to streaming last year and had the kind of cultural impact Disney hasnโt had since Frozen.
Good movies are good movies. They break through. Donโt fucking blame โidentitiesโ for your own poor storytelling.
oh... truly disappointing take from Pete Docter ๐
A striking photo of seven stags against a grey sky behind them, walking across the top of a grassy hill in a line
These deer silhouetted against the sky make for quite a magical sight โจ
They were spotted making their way through the parkland at Wentworth Castle Gardens.

cant believe one year ago i was still writing my #PhD #chemsky thesis and was under so much pressure to submit by May 2025
time flies. i miss the #UK
TIL @researchrabbit.ai underwent a huge revamp?
it looks different from how it used to, did anyone else on #Sciencesky notice this change?
#chemsky
i am once again asking #EndNote to allow users to be able to change the sync options, e.g. sync more or less frequently than the default of 15 minutes
Once a chemist, always a chemist, I guess. I suppose thatโs #Chemsky right thereโฆ

wonder what it could have been and what makes it so special? perhaps a migratory bird or other rare find?
just saw someone taking photos of a bird standing in a field ๐ฎ
it was a brown bird that looked a bit like a heron, egret, crane, stork, or other (sorry, i'm not a bird enthusiast).

๐งช This bacterial strain has been maintained in sterile water since 1994.
Possible carbon sources incl. โphthalic acid - a plastic degradation product likely leached from inoculation tubesโ.
Genomic variations accumulated between 1994 and 2022 suggested adaptations to long-term nutrient deprivation

there were four vials of this, it looked like it was to be reconstituted and injected (either bolus or continuously infused)
anyone from #pharmsky take a stab at what medication this might be?
in a hospital i once saw several vials of an evil-looking* solid
* specifically looks like solid iodine: a dark mauve solid full of crystals which looked like they were melting down the side of the vials

'Panic buying' and related crisis behaviour is in the news again.
Here are some slides from my recent presentation on the topic.

What were once vices are now. . . essential for human reproduction, apparently. Ancient retroviral sequences put to use:

I don't promote all our papers on here...like they are ALL AWESOME (of course they are, I wrote them, and you should be honoured to have access to my GREAT THOUGHTS) but this one is a bit special. And has broad implications.

"Rather, my point is that chemists often stop trying to improve affinity once nanomolar levels have been achieved. While such levels are often sufficient, additional affinity may dramatically simplify the multi-parameter optimization process"
