A wide landscape view of a barren hillside under a clear blue sky. Dozens of sheep are scattered across the rolling field, grazing or resting on the grass across the slope.

The UK was once a temperate rainforest.
Sheep farming is the reason it's gone 🌳

@bbcnewsnight.bsky.social No mention whatsoever on the mainstream news or newsnight on the way we protect ourselves from the energy crisis, which is a rapid investment in renewables. Problem - heating oil doubled. Solution - SolarPV batteries and ASHP. Is the BBC too scared to talk about this?

So excited to be part of the amazing transformation of Cwm DoethΓ―e in the sheepwrecked Cambrian Mountains. Hopefully what #tirnatur are doing will inspire neighbours to do the same. What’s even more exciting is that I walked past my 3x3m spot about 12 years ago. What a coincidence!

The right headline for this story is this; β€˜The farming cash grab that drove wildlife off the land’.

We’ve taken 75% of our land area for farming, taken it from nature. Re wilding farmland starts to correct this.

I wouldn’t go that far.Still very dangerous to cycle around here.Very few cycle lanes+no bike racks have been put up in my village by the council. My group has installed 2 though. asked highways reps if we could replace a parking slot with bike racks. You’d have thought I asked them for a kidney!

I reported this to my local South Staffs Council and fair play to them, it was cleaned within the week. Trying to get the vegetation cut back to reveal the path to its full width but that’s a different story.

πŸ‘ Great to see Climate and Nature Crisis Caucus Vice-Chair @pippaheylings.bsky.social introduce a Bill to protect chalk streams today in Parliament. We urge the Government to support her plan before we irreversibly harm these globally rare habitats.

If you care 1 iota about our rivers and seas you must watch this. This shocked me in a way I didnt think it would - I thought I knew all about this scandal. It’s worse than the PO scandal but the difference is nothing has changed, nothing.

Every bright spec a tiny piece of plastic. There must be millions of pieces on this field alone. Multiply that by the thousands of fields this β€˜soil improver’ is spread over & you get some idea of the extent of this problem no one is talking about. I have more pictures & first hand account

@drdavidgk.bsky.social would you be interested in this story? This is the widespread covering of microplastics all over the fields of England. Mixed with compost from domestic green waste bins. It’s a national scandal & completely legal. This was filmed on a National Nature Reserve in Staffordshire

I saw this. Good news but not much space dedicated to one of the most important issues facing the planet right now. Compare and contrast to a BBC article on football or anything on Trump. The BBC is definitely downplaying anything about the climate and nature crisis.

Meanwhile in South Staffordshire…

Last year I asked employees of Highways, Staffordshire County Council if we could have a School Street in Bilbrook. They hadn’t even heard of them. That’s we are right now, the car is King.

Thanks Phil. Excuse my ignorance, what’s invasive mangling? Is it putting them through a mangle and what species do you do it to? We remove himalayan balsam every summer along our watercourse but just tread on them.
