Commercial rat baits to be banned from supermarket shelves Rat baits could soon be restricted to licensed operators, after a change in regulations from the Australian Pesticides and Vetinary Medicines Authority.

Excellent! Well overdue!

I hope it becomes a permanent ban Australia-wide, except for under very extreme and specific circumstances, as judged and implemented by genuine experts in pest and wildlife management www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

Wild, ancient trees have so many things to tell us, if we're willing to listen to their whispers.

This one in Glengarriff, for eg, may very well have been protected as a seedling from browsing by the presence of local wolves, before people extirpated them from the area just over 3 centuries ago.

part 2. else will survive because all regrowth is eaten by wallabies. The poison also killed a number of Cherry ballart trees. Mose people especially working in environment services hat "Pittoes" as the call them.

It is very interesting to read that "Morwell, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyres, Marlo, and Mallacoota are all considered native populations." as the local council consider it invasive and last year poisoned all of the Pittosporum in a small 1.5 HA reserve, even though local information is that nothing

Australia’s koala paradox: why is the beloved marsupial endangered in parts but overabundant in others? There are so many koalas in some places that food is the issue – while elsewhere populations are threatened by habitat loss. And there are no easy fixes

Answer m: Habitat loss, habitat loss, habitat loss. A small but growing problem of lower leaf protein as a direct result of rising CO2. We warned about this 30 years ago www.theguardian.com/environment/...

My buddy and bat scientist @arummel.bsky.social is studying how bat wings move in flight.

Scientists often look at the 2d shapes of bat wings but her work shows it’s critical to consider the 3d shape while in flight.
