"If the public must pay their fair share to see the Twelve Apostles, why don’t multinational fossil fuel companies have to pay more to drill for gas in the waters around them?” writes Louise Morris, Advocate at The Australia Institute.

Excellent! Well overdue!
I hope it becomes a permanent ban Australia-wide, except for under very extreme and specific circumstances, as judged and implemented by genuine experts in pest and wildlife management www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...
ACF FOI docs show tt Rachel Parry (then DepSec DCCEEW) & KylieCoulhan (WA EnvAssmt) exchanged ~200 txts w WoodCIDE re approval conditions
“Rachel–we are about to send you our response which identifies 3 items of factual correctness which if modified would then constitute a document we can accept”
At this point, the Environment Department (and new EPA) exists to make recommendations that can be overruled as a political signal to industry.
Woodside is looking for a new CEO, so we thought we'd lend them a hand 🙌
“Our research has demonstrated that the loss of these forests, the mature trees used by these birds, cannot be offset or mitigated,” said Kate Millar, CEO of @birdlifeoz.bsky.social.
“Once the forests are gone, these much-loved birds will be gone.”

I'm hoping if you do Wordle while waiting for the owls to start calling, the effect is double.
Wild, ancient trees have so many things to tell us, if we're willing to listen to their whispers.
This one in Glengarriff, for eg, may very well have been protected as a seedling from browsing by the presence of local wolves, before people extirpated them from the area just over 3 centuries ago.

It is very interesting to read that "Morwell, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyres, Marlo, and Mallacoota are all considered native populations." as the local council consider it invasive and last year poisoned all of the Pittosporum in a small 1.5 HA reserve, even though local information is that nothing

A doodle of a bat laying down and another doodle of Andrea taking 3d videos of bats flying in a tent outside surrounded by bugs. The words say “Andrea Rummel, rice U bat wings changing shape. How elegant is 2d shapes for what is actually happening in the air? Historically people have used 2d because it’s easy to collect but hoses useful is it really? Conclusion: 2d is a bad readout. Andrea took 3d videos of bats flying in a tent in the field in Belize to understand the wing stroke of different bat species”
My buddy and bat scientist @arummel.bsky.social is studying how bat wings move in flight.
Scientists often look at the 2d shapes of bat wings but her work shows it’s critical to consider the 3d shape while in flight.
