This sounds like somebody who grew up rich trying to imagine what poor people sound like.

We know how cash money works FAR BETTER than you do. You might know systems like stocks & IRAs & bonds & trust funds, but we do know cash money. We know SNAP doesn’t buy EVERYTHING at the grocery store.

Right on cue, it's time to subsidize drivers at non-drivers expense again, as is tradition.

Jared is correct. Read Theory

"Whatever states are today, they are not what they once wereβ€”in part because, as Dasgupta chronicles, the state now faces serious competition for center stage in the organization of human society."

Americans are addicted to cars, but in many ways it's a forced addiction. Decades of policy have made cars the dominant mode of travel at the expense of others, and marketing reinforces the car as the "best" choice. This isn't to excuse individual choices, but car dependency is a systemic issue.

Minnesota lawmaker Katie Jones rode in a cargo e-bike to the hospital for her baby's birth. Her husband, Peter Schmitt, pedaled the two miles there.

On the return journey, their son Hans – all 8 pounds and 1 ounce of him – was bundled up and handled it just fine, Jones said.

Video of ICE shooting of Texas man raises questions about government claim An Immigration and Customs Enforcement official said Ruben Martinez β€œintentionally ran over” an agent before being killed by another agent in south Texas last year.

We know about the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. But there was a very similar killing of a young man named Ruben Martinez in which immigration agents claimed he attacked them with his car before they shot him. New video suggests that too may be a lie. www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...

This is vibes-only but...single-stair just feels safer. Instead of a single wall of windows and a long hallway, like you find in a double-loaded corridor building, a single-stair building has the stairs right outside your unit. And you've got windows on 2 or 3 sides, not just 1.

Your Data Will Be Used Against You (and not just by ICE/CPB). All these technologies will make their way to ordinary law enforcement.

So let me get this straight ...

1. US bombs Iran
2. Oil price goes up a bit, benefitting Russia's petrostate
3. Russia gives Iran targeting info
4. Oil price shoots WAY up
5. US unsanctions Russian oil

Alabama set to execute man who did not kill anyone Unless Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey intervenes, Charles β€œSonny” Burton, 75, will be executed Thursday. He is among thousands in America convicted under a controversial felony murder law.

A. This is awful and no one, wherever you stand on the death penalty, should be okay with it

B. This is a good headline that refuses to equivocate

A++ greenwashing for fossil fuels by @nytimes.com. WTAF. Especially infuriating to give American Petroleum Institute the last word after an interview with brilliant writer and climate activist @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social β€” whom I highly recommend you read and listen too!

NYT, get it together.

Humanity heating planet faster than ever before, study finds Researchers identify sharp rise to about 0.35C every decade, after excluding natural fluctuations such as El NiΓ±o

It doesn’t matter whether the rate of global warming is increasing. It’ll never cease to amaze me that people don’t care that it’s happening at all. It should be the most alarming thing ever.

I’ve had to tell so many parents that their sons & daughters were dead, had been murdered. Their screams, their silences, their faces, their collapses, cling to me like cobwebs I can’t ever shake.

Our leaders, so callous with death as games or memes or brags, know nothing of grief, only of greed.

Slow Horses season five: there’s comedy but also real spycraft – according to espionage expert Honey traps are laid, cyber attacks are enacted and it seems MI5 have to rely upon Slough House to bail them out once again.

That’s why Slow Horses works. The humor pulls you in, but the tradecraft feels believable. Intelligence work is often messy, bureaucratic, and human, and the show actually leans into that reality. #SlowHorses #SpyCraft #Espionage #MI5 #intelligence

Velotric e-bike in the South Tacoma Station bike locker

Since my new commute is door to door transit, minus the mile from my house to get to the Sounder station, I've started using the Bike Lock lockers for my end to end connection.

Can't beat $.05 an hour.
