I have been so stressed about not receiving the settlement because again, she genuinely thinks this all has been me trying to steal from her. But today, it arrived. I cried, I was so relieved. This has been a HORRIBLE experience and now it is over. 8/
My landlord was unhinged, making all the same accusations to the judge that she didn’t bring in the rodents so it must be something I did, that the fleas were my fault too, that I was just trying to steal money from her. Fortunately, the judge sided with me and granted everything I asked for. 7/
She countersued me for the cost of an exterminator she had gotten over a year earlier that did not work and for rent I hadn’t payed back in Feb when my apartment was uninhabitable for other reasons - that she told me to not pay!!!! My saint of a mom helped prepare our case and we went to court. 6/
She then had the friggin audacity to deduct the cost of the pest control from my security deposit… so I sued. I sought to recoup the security deposit, what I payed for all the flea bombs, and time I couldn’t live in the apartment. 5/
As if moving wasn’t miserable enough, I was now having to thoroughly check/wash/spray everything I owned to make sure no fleas were brought over (was fortunately successful in this endeavor). The SAME DAY I turn my keys in, my landlord hired pest control to come spray for fleas. 😑 4/
Fortunately, I was able to stay in the new apartment with my lovely roommates @nathaneisner.bsky.social and @noahmckbraun.bsky.social. Once the fleas were all dead I had about a week to pack everything up and move it over. 3/
My landlord accused me of bringing the fleas into the apartment in grocery bags. She told me it was my fault because I must be feeding the mice. She refused to get someone to spray for the fleas. I spent the next week and a half purchasing and setting off flea bombs to try to kill the things. 2/
Back in July I was set to move out of my rodent-infested former apartment. I went on a trip the first week of July. I returned to begin my move… only to discover the place had be take over by fleas, no doubt from the rodents that were not being addressed by the landlord. 1/
