I love both my PSP and my Vita, for example, but the PSP is firmly on the "toy-like" side while the Vita is basically one step removed from an iPhone, and as a result the PSP just hits different.
I think there is something to be said for us losing something important when gaming handhelds became less toy-like and more like expensive consumer electronics
On twitter I keep seeing people say that Resident Evil doesn't work with co-op and I feel crazy. Some of the most fun I've had is playing RE5 and 6 with friends.
