This is how I access bluesky
The funny thing is that according to surnames Iβm more than likely related to my (step)sister some ways back in Ireland, making me related to @dicknixon.bsky.social too π€π¨
Just been informed that my sister - step-sister, but we don't say that - is 8th cousin once removed to @dicknixon.bsky.social
I get him being OK with it just as I get those who call it excessive.. just saying his writing is βdiscursiveβ
I stole the title once π
Ellroy in his private life is a deeply religious moralist, this comes through
A great director once had me go through the first scene of Glengarry, mark every instance of 'fuck,' & ask, 'is this justified'? Every one had a good reason. I've read a lot of Ellroy - there are plenty of swears/slurs, but there's always a reason. You never feel like he says things to say them.
In nearly 30 yrs of work I remember once, maybe twice where I thought the character might need to use the word. I asked myself, would another word work here without cheating? The answer was yes, so I went on. I think the least anyone can ask for is rigour..
!!
Iβve played my unintended part in rehabilitating Nixon & I have to answer for it, but a healthy way to think of him is as equally ruthless to many before - & he thought govβt had a responsibility to people, he knew foreign policy was a serious game, & the president canβt be seen doing certain things
Edna OβBrien to Alan Rickman, 2000, on Harold Pinter - βThe trouble with Harold is heβs sewn up all his wounds, now all he can write are these little things.β
Ooh
The version of the Eno doc I saw had footage of him working with Cale. It was tense. I know why they wanted to work together & Iβm amazed they got that far, because theyβre basically trying to do the same thing by different means. Theyβll never do it again but Jesus the record is great.
That Eno record alone is mind-blowingly gorgeous, and they almost killed each other making it
- looking like the cat who got the cream. If you ended up there after selling weed out of La Monte Youngβs flat to fund 12-hour drone rehearsals, you probably would too.
then 9 yrs later made one of the most distinctive, delicate, & perfect pop records ever. His Rockpalast 1983 gig is genuinely terrifying. He forgave Lou while not letting him off the hook. Heβs all over that Charli XCX record, & proud of it. He appeared with her in a massive white fur coat -
John Cale is 84. He sparked the slow-motion Big Bang in an unheated flat on Ludlow St. He should be dead many times over. Bowie badly wanted to work with him, but they went on benders every time they tried. He didnβt give a fuck about pop music until 1964 -
From Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Vol. 3: Editor-in-Grief Panel 1: Clarabelle: Me? Write a column? My land -- I don't know - tee-hee! Course, I do hear plenty o' gossip - and -- ! Mickey: Sure y'do - just write it down! Panel 2: Mickey: But keep it, clean! Remember - we go into the best homes! Clarabelle: Clean? Land sakes, you don't - oh! You little kidder!
I'm quite drunk so forgive me, but I think I meant that 'therapy' argument is absurd - a good compelling character is all you need
for everyone who says 'fuck John Inman for perpetuating stereotypes' there are a dozen people who say 'wow, you can't pin him down, and everyone loves him'
Turned up at a restaurant where I'm known but haven't been for some time, after two drinks was given another gratis approximately the size of China.. am well, but not well
I think of the time I ran into a raccoon at like 10am & he saw me looking & he looked at me like βyeah man long nightβ & I said βinnitβ & he went on his way
Productions in London, Manchester, Yorkshire, & more TBD

The people handling my play I'M NOT THERE suggested a social media post for Int'l Women's Day. No idea if they'll do it or not but considering it's about women so full of rage & despair they're driven to unspeakable acts, hey, fair enough.
