If anyone has noticed my Instagram, my podcast, Rise of the Gay Cinephileβs IG and the one for my film festival, GASP! have disappeared, itβs because all three have been suspended. I have absolutely no idea why but I thought Iβd put this out there so people know I havenβt randomly blocked them.
Had another moment of feeling good about myself and my body at the gym earlier, so Iβm using it as an excuse to flash my tits on here x
I also watched If I Had Legs Iβd Kick You, a masterclass in dealing with mental health on film, a phenomenal piece of filmmaking that perfectly balances comedy, drama & thriller. Byrne delivers a career-best performance that is at the top of the reasons as to why this is a must-watch. boxd.it/dnUwFD
Watched two fantastic new releases recently! First up, The Testament of Ann Lee, which is a compelling historical feminist musical epic that is one of the most visually impressive films to be released so far this year, Seyfried is phenomenal at the centre of this near-perfect film!Β boxd.it/dlYqFH
Best thing about going in the office? The half decent lighting in the lift makes for a good mirror selfie
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 isnβt as good as the first season but itβs still great, a fun, well written and entertaining season that provides interesting new story arcs for arcs of the returning characters, whilst also introducing some great new characters too.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is a fine sci-fi action film thatβs dragged down by pacing issues, unfunny humour, the big focus on just setting up future projects, and a forced romance, but the great cast, excellent CGI and interesting themes help prevent it from turning into a bad film. boxd.it/dmPE0p
Anyways, thatβs my Scream 7 take. Rant over.
As much as Iβm a fan of Williamson and Campbell, supporting them & their comeback wouldnβt feel right considering it came at the price of the franchise losing a genuinely fantastic character and Barrera losing a job because sheβs on the right side of history and isnβt afraid to speak out about it.
Scream is my joint first (with Elm Street) favourite franchise but I canβt bring myself to pay to see Scream 7. What happened to Melissa Barrera was bad enough as it is but throw in all of the AI usage too (for a film thatβs apparently about the dangers of AI?) & what you get is an embarrassing mess
So if Paramount are fine with stealing from artists to use AI for their Scream 7 marketing, theyβll be fine with people waiting until the film is available to illegally download online so we can steal from them too, right?
Jessica Jones Season 1 is top-tier Marvel TV, with 13 dark, violent and intense episodes with phenomenal performances from Krysten Ritter and David Tennant. It incorporates themes of abuse, PTSD, and trauma perfectly into its compelling story and neo-noir style.
New shirt means interrupting my usual film reviews to post a mirror selfie x
partway through the decade, what are your fav movies
2020: Shiva Baby
2021: Drive My Car

Only just watching the BAFTAs now, and an instrumental version of Mature by Hilary Duff playing whilst Frankenstein wins for best costume design is HIGH CAMP.
Rogue One is amongst the best films of the franchise, a big-scale blockbuster with a lot of heart, some truly gorgeous cinematography, fantastic characters and a Darth Vader scene that is within my top 3 favourite Star Wars moments. Rewatching this after Andor just made it even better boxd.it/ddeGAp
Andor Season 2 was somehow even better than the first season. A hard-hitting, mind-blowing and utterly compelling season that further cements this show as the most grounded thing to come from Star Wars, with important themes and allegories that hit so hard right now given the world we live in.
Daredevil Season 1 is a refreshing change for the MCU (itβs definitely cannon now), providing gritty, violent and genuinely intense street level storylines with perfect casting for the titular character and Kingpin, dark and atmospheric cinematography, and expertly shot fight scenes.
The Chronology of Water is a phenomenal directorial debut and an utterly harrowing biopic. Imogen Poots delivers a powerhouse performance in the central role within a beautifully made film that is tough to sit through at times but essential viewing with incredibly important themes. boxd.it/dblCON
Wuthering Heights is a film with three lanes β three lanes, an adaptation of the novel, a blockbuster romance and a David Cronenberg-inspired erotic thriller β but the balance is so off to the point it becomes a badly paced mess that is afraid of going too far with any of its ideas. boxd.it/d8SfcP
Little AmΓ©lie is a beautiful, tender and touching film that tells its story through a childβs point of view, which allows for some brilliantly weird moments without sacrificing how grounded it is. Sincere, sweet and compelling, this great piece of animation is a must-watch. boxd.it/d7LYUJ
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 is a superior sequel that embraces what worked the first time around whilst building on it to create a thoroughly entertaining film. Itβs a touching film about chosen families that is always a favourite of mine to revisit when it comes to the MCU.Β boxd.it/d6MEOT
I wish I had watched it at the time! And I completely agree about FitzSimmons, theyβre currently my favourite characters in the show!
Guardians of the Galaxy provides an intriguing premise with intriguing characters and executes it brilliantly with great humour, effective emotional scenes and big-scale action scenes. Itβs the first entry in a consistently incredible trilogy, and itβs always so much fun to rewatch. boxd.it/d6KbLn
Andor Season 1 is PHENOMENAL, my favourite piece of Star Wars media since The Empire Strikes Back. Itβs raw, gritty and filled with heart and emotion, with stellar performances, stunning cinematography and an incredible score. I only wish I watched it sooner! Cannot wait to check out season 2.
It took me so long to start Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I am so glad Iβve finally gotten around to it. Season 1 started off fine, but by the time it finished, I was fully invested and on the edge of my seat. Incredible TV with great characters, great twists & turns, and great pacing.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is admittedly an improvement on its predecessor, Garfield & Stone give better performances, and THAT scene in the third act really packs a punch. However, itβs still bad thanks to the exposition-heavy dialogue, bad pacing, & an awful
performance from DeHaan. boxd.it/d5jiGL
2026 - the year I became a cardigan gay x
The Winter Soldier is a sequel that outdoes its predecessor, working as a solid spy thriller & one of the best MCU films. The cast does a terrific job whilst various plot lines are delivered in a very well-balanced way that still allows for well-placed humour & exciting action scenes. boxd.it/d4CdZH
