I was just reminded of something I learned in anthropology class. Now, I have terrible, horrible, no good, very bad self-esteem. I have MDD, GAD, CPTSD. So basically I think I am nothing despite repeated assurances by friends, lovers, colleagues and bosses that I am in fact competent.

So saying thank you is acknowledging that kindness and effort. It doesn’t have anything to do with whether I think it’s correct.
