This looks like interesting and important work.

Building a culture of community and belonging for children in our schools is vital, especially for more vulnerable pupils.

My eldest is in year 6 and had an open evening tonight. I couldn’t go so her dad took her. When I picked them up, all they could talk about was the jerk chicken and Bombay potatoes they had eaten as sample school dinners πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

πŸ“’The Building Belonging Project πŸ“’

So happy to share a big project that I’ve been working on for the last few years with my LSX teammates.

The building belonging project features insights from world experts, as well as classroom resources.

And we’re just getting started!

Meanwhile Kemi Badenoch has said she was brought up middle-class but became working-class when she worked in McDonald's 😳

Opposite for me, we were working-class in Middlesbrough until me Mam bought us a Viennetta one day, straight to middle-class πŸ˜‚

I did a thing! We wanted our international
pupils to have a celebration for mid autumn festival - so we decorated their common room in secret and we all had mooncakes, and looked for the jade rabbit on the moon!

Today is #WorldAfroDay so here are a few of the Vasco family afros over the years.

My personal hair journey is symbolic of my own journey towards being anti-racist and coming face to face with my internalised racism.

But for now just enjoy my Dad’s and Uncle David’s afros because they are πŸ”₯

One of England's largest school academies to go phone-free Ormiston Academies Trust is removing access to phones for 35,000 pupils at its 42 schools.

What a weird non-story. Even in our very progressive school, students are not allowed to have mobile phones out during the school day. www.bbc.com/news/article...

One of @thosethatcan.bsky.social’s practical tips for managing your own wellbeing is put something in your diary to look forward to – big or small. Always have something there.

Well, Trevor Noah, you are in my diary πŸ˜‚πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ—“οΈ

Agree β€œduring the school day” is key here isn’t it. Especially as some of these schools are in rural (ish) locations where pupils rely on (sometimes problematic) public transport. Total non story!

The parallels

1. Marginalise a group of people
2. Tell incendiary lies and double down when challenged.
3. Provoke / encourage people to act
4. Deny any responsibility for anything which follows

Straight from 1930s Germany playbook

Will Antiracist ReAwakening With in the Wake of a War on Woke? A 20 minute presentation given at a symposium on race and education at the British Educational Research Association conference 2024

Will antiracist (re)awakening wither in the wake of a war on woke?

Here’s a pre-recording of the second presentation I delivered at British Educational Research conference as part of a race & education symposium with brilliant colleagues SaffronPowell & Rachel Robinson.

My book is not marketed (could just stop there) as an β€œinclusive” book, but it was written very much with the intention to include people who are otherwise excluded from science because I *get* why some are excluded from *cultural* activities like science www.amazon.co.uk/Why-Dont-Thi...
