NOV. 27 AT NOON FOR A RALLY AND MARCH Early in November, Oska Hermasa, & respected senior member of the Berkeley community and Berkeley Police Review Commissioner, in the role of legal observer requested the badge numbers of officers Braunecker And Sifuentes of the UCPD. They responded to his request by body slamming him to the ground, cracking a rib. He was handcuffed and arrested on the charge of interfering with a police officer in the line of duty. Those duties consisted of rousting homeless people under new guidelines for People's Park. On November 8, 300 people attended a speakout and march to the UC cop shop, which ended with 11 arrests on trespassing charges. Since these actions, the level of police repression has greatly iscreased. Witnesses and protestors have been harassed and intimidated. copwatchers have been verbally abused and arrested in retaliation. Braunecker And Sifuentes have continued to brutalize the community, including clubbing anti-war protestors and beating up a well-know homeless activist. Oska is scheduled for arraignment on Nov. 27, 2 PM at the Berkeley Courthouse (2120 MLK Vay). Come out to support Oska. Defend your right to observe the cops!!! Yesterday’s Solidarity Pop-Up was a success! Grateful for Whiteaker Community Market for organizing, The Hybrid for hosting, and Equiano for the much needed caffeination.

I sold three tatreez patches for $35, and all of that is going to my friend Dua’a in Gaza!

Snagged this beaut of a desk off Facebook Marketplace from a woman who got it in her college days. Her mother stained the wood. I’m so grateful to be the new steward for this piece of art! The rolling top still moves like butter. 🥰

This was a big job to take on as my re-introduction to theatre after nearly a decade apart from the industry, but I’m so happy to be back! Now for the treacherous task of figuring out how to balance this with the rest of my life!

A closeup of what appears to be an old-school ghost light, tucked away in a storage area. It’s a single bulb on a metal rod, with a metal cage around the bulb. Its purpose is to be left on when the theatre is empty, to appease the spirits of the building and to protect shows from curses. Nowadays, a lot of theatres now have a single LED light above the stage to serve this purpose.

This show was so rewarding to see come together in such a short period of time. I’m so grateful for the entire cast and crew, and of course, everybody who came out to see it! I wasn’t familiar with Urinetown before I stepped into the production, and quickly fell in love with it.

Juniper holds up a gel, a semi-transparent colored plastic sheet that gets slotted into theatre lights to add your color of choice. This blue gel has various sizes and shapes of holes cut in it, in hopes of mimicking another effect.

Theatre Appreciation Post! Icymi, I spent the better part of January as part of the lighting team for VLT’s production of Urinetown. I hung lights, helped design the color schemes and cues used in the show, took lots of notes, and dabbled in light board operation!

Behind the Bastards did a great series on Portland Police Bureau and their “union”, which became a blueprint for many other police departments! They shouldn’t be allowed to call themselves unions.
