Thank you so much! Will have to think of something to mark the occasion!
I finished the first draft of my first novel yesterday! π₯³π₯π
Iβm going to take a moment to celebrate, I just have to cut one chapter, rewrite two scenes and get started on book two firstβ¦
Hey, you gotta strike while the iron is hot, right?
Note to self: Monster first. THEN brush teeth. Then write write write.
Lovely day of writing at the library with a friend today. Bizarre how much more I get done when I work next to her - youβd think it would be the other way around! I really ought to pay her to sit next to me when I work, lol. π©βπ»π #amwriting #writingcommunity
It takes much longer to point out all inconsistencies and plot holes in #wutheringheights than it does to watch the filmβand that is excluding infidelities to the novel, which I read so long ago I have forgotten it. The film is entertaining for all the wrong reasons. Like cellophane bed hangings.
My friendβs fantastic one-line review of #wutheringheights after we had laughed through the whole film: βwell, that was not Wuthering, and that was not Heightsβ. π¬
Two deaths in 12h - a friend and a family member. Such a shock. No #novelwriting today. I think classic 1980s Spielberg films and a Georgette Heyer book is the best therapy. Distracting, but not distressing. Might name two characters after the gents who have passed away, though. #requiescatinpace
The plan for January was to finish writing my first novel. The plan for February was to edit it. But all Iβve done so far this year is more research, a lot of fact checking and making sure the timeline works (it does β phew!) #writingprocess #writerlife
Working on cutting 1,600 words from an extractβ¦ just 115 to go, provided I donβt get inspired again and start adding more!
RIP Sophie Kinsella. Thank you for all the lovely hours I got to spend reading your wonderful books.

I actually spent the morning polishing my great grandfather's pince-nez. He was a shoemaker. They fit me perfectly and are great for close work.
So true. My mum was the culture carrier in our family. When she passed, my sibling kept only a few things. I shipped so much over to the UK, despite not having kids. My home is full, but I'm surrounded by my ancestors' things. And one day, my nieces' children will want to know about their heritage.
The statue of Mary Anning and her dog Tray in Lyme Regis
New Substack post - but a much lighter topic this time: a day trip to Lyme Regis in Dorset. Austen, Anning and Ammonites. But sadly I didnβt spot Captain Wentworth on the Cobb this time, either. π

My first, actually.

If you are interested in reading and sharing longer format writing, I have just set up a #Substack and am working on a few pieces, the first of which will be posted in a few days. Let's connect! π©βπ» #NinaWritesAgain ninawritesagain.substack.com?r=5z9g1a&utm...
Thank you! Iβm just doing the #wordnerd version of it, lol.
Another adult amateur authorβs attempts at apt, acute, appropriate and adequate alliteration. (Assisting AIs are absolutely anathema.) Alliterations are actually always an astonishingly amusing art. Adversarial attitudes are not accepted. Aloha and adieu! #AlphabetChallenge #writingcommunity
Btw I finally figured out what to call a post on BlueSky: If a Twitter post is a tweet, then surely a BlueSky post is a bleat! ππ

βI think thereβs an inherent misogyny around it. A lot of the time, the sorts of things that women like across arts and culture tends to get discounted.β

Went to the beach to finish a chapter - done. Then entered a flow state where 2,200 words just happened. Unfortunately 3 hours also happened. And now Iβm done. Well done, that is.
Note to self: From now on the sunscreen lives next to the the iPad.

ChatGPT down globally. Guessing Gemini and Copilot are busy today.
New blog post - it is a form of writing, right? It counts.

Bitterly cold polar winds today, but oh my god, the air quality!! If youβre in the UK, get yourself outdoors and breathe it in - if smells like childhood. Even London has amazing air quality today: www.iqair.com/gb/uk/englan...
Oh the joys of finally recovering from the flu only to be forced to work with colleagues who insist on coming to work while still contagiousβ¦ π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ Iβm going abroad in a week, canβt risk getting ill again now!
Finally went back to work despite still not being completely well - only to discover that my colleague had called in sick with the same lurgy I had. Instead of an easy return to work, I ended up doing twice as much as normal. Exhausted now. Next time Iβm not going back until Iβm in rude health!
