A great point! A verbal inner monologue isn't something everyone has.
However, even if you don't routinely use inner speech, you can still imagine what it would be like to speak a word or phrase, which is how inner speech was cued for participants in the study described here.

We breed them and exploit them

@weratedogs.com -- We completed our puzzle to find that important dog parts have been redistributed. Our soccer-prodigy corgi was given a bonus limb at the cost of a friend's snoot. Athleticism unmatched. Anatomy concerning.
We hoped for one of each piece, but everyone is still perfect. 13.5/10

There's a Dangerous Gap in Drug Research in Pregnancy
Less than 1 percent of clinical trials include pregnant or breastfeeding people. Experts say that needs to change
With all the fuss over tylenol, we're missing a bigger issue: we don't know enough about medication safety in pregnancy because so few drug studies include pregnant people. And that harms both women and their fetuses. My latest @sciam.bsky.social www.scientificamerican.com/article/what...

Lots of fun with this piece for @pennneuroknow.bsky.social!
After a great discussion of @jackiegio.bsky.social's recent paper at a journal club, I thought it would be the perfect addition to our recent series of posts on habits.
