A magnetic green chloride ion model stuck to a chair leg in a high school chemistry classroom. They get away from the students and end up in the funniest places.
This chloride ion model is the only thing sticking around school for the next couple of weeks. Hope everyone has a nice break! #iteachchem

My three year old has a snow day tomorrow. I do not. We donβt have many childcare options on the fly so I have to take a day off. I just spent about 1.5 hours preparing lesson plansβ¦ not many other jobs are like this! But! I got to hear some thundersnow while I was working on things βοΈ β‘οΈ

A cartoon drawing of an animal saying βwhen fluorine is tryna take your electron but youβre low key a chill atomβ as the element fluorine takes an electron due to its very high electronegativity value. This is a students recreation of a meme they saw on instagram.
Thankful for the little moments in class, like when a student is giggling uncontrollably because they are redrawing a chemistry thing they saw on insta to share with me. I donβt really know this meme, but so happy they are in on the joke because of things we are learning π©·π§ͺπ€ #iteachchem

Yes, just paper! I made them on google slides. A little annoying to cut out, but easy to save and replace if we break any.

A disorganized pile of puzzle pieces that depict Lewis dot diagrams of oxygen, chlorine, nitrogen, carbon, and nitrogen.
A Lewis dot structure model of CH4, methane, made with puzzle pieces alongside student work determining the type of bond between carbon and hydrogen, drawings of Lewis dot structures.
A Lewis dot structure model of H2O, water, made with puzzle pieces alongside student work determining the type of bond between oxygen and hydrogen and drawings of Lewis dot structures.
A Lewis dot structure model of NCl3, nitrogen trichloride, made with puzzle pieces alongside student work determining the type of bond between nitrogen and chlorine, drawings of Lewis dot structures.
I always talk about how building Lewis structures is like putting a little puzzle together, so this year I decided to just go ahead and make one. I think this really helped my students see the octet around that central atom and get some practice drawing their first structures. #iteachchem

The sun rises behind a high school, painting the clouds a brilliant orange color against a light blue sky.
This time of year, I get to see the sun rise and set on my commute to and from work. Iβm hoping to use this new account to connect with other educators. It already seems so nice around here!
