it's so dark that america is just an endless cycle of reinventing cultural and fiscal feudalism from first principles. like how nature keeps trying to make a crab, except it's a type of crab that grows its claw right through its own brain
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.
Happy birthday, Rickey Henderson. π
The guy who famously crosses every border in one night without documentation?
Do you maintain any block lists we could subscribe to? You're so damn good at this.
here's the 60 minutes cecot video part 1 of 5 - recorded/uploaded by and all credit to @jasonparis.bsky.social
I just reduced background noise, chopped the 14 minutes into 3 minute segments each compressed under 100 mb for bsky's limits, cropped and rotated a few degrees for easier viewing on here
The best part of Bluesky is I keep getting older and they stay 38.
i would fuck up a whole box of kudos right now
I am so upset.
Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdaniβs inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
This magazine just fired all of their politics staffers
When the FBI arrested Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups, the basketball-watching public turned to sports media to help make sense of the story. What explanations were on offer? Before disclosing its own BetMGM partnership, The Athletic called βall of sportsβ complicit in the scandal. Bill Simmons dismissed the episode as βa couple bad apples,β growing pains typical of a growth industry. Zach Lowe had ESPN's betting guy on his podcast; together they concluded that these issues can be tinkered out of existence by limiting prop bets and changing how teams report injuries. Lowe's podcast, like Simmons's, began with a FanDuel ad. The takeover of sports media by gambling companies imposes hard boundaries on the domain of these conversations. Most importantly, these captured discussions always obscure the social and political choices that enable the gambling industry to entrench itself. Allowing people to gamble on their phones and allowing sports gambling companies to spend untold sums on lobbying and advertising are choices. These choices, not some law of nature, are why millions of people have started gambling in recent years. Likewise, other sports media companies have chosen to offer up their audiences as prey to gambling outfits. Defector has chosen something else: We never have and never will take money from gambling companies. Subscribers fund our operations, which allows us to remain independent, critical, and uncompromised. Consider making that choice.
NBA media is not built to cover a gambling scandal, but Defector is: defector.com/products
I've built a socioeconomic system that depends on everyone to do useful work and act ethically except the people at the top, who get unimaginable rewards for being antisocial frauds and criminals. And I think it will stand the test of time
Iβm actually fine with us invading them after seeing this.
You basically just have to babysit yourself for your entire life
They literally just fought a Supreme Court case for the right to racially profile. It was in the news!
entire press has gotten bullied into treating charlie kirk as if he was one of the most important americans alive and not a modestly popular podcaster
The only thing Charlie Kirk had in common with Jesus is that Christians get mad when you quote him to them.
Use of the word "evil" in official congressional e-newsletters, over time, by party
We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

In the past month NYT has published 32 articles that mention Mamdani and βglobalize the intifada", 13 that mention Israel's fake "aid" agency that's killed 800+, 5 on Israel's starvation campaign and two that mention, in passing, child amputees in Gaza. I argue this is makes no sense and is depraved
One of the most powerful tools in my toolbox is SVG. When combined with CSS and JavaScript, we can do some truly remarkable things. β¨
π Iβve just published a brand-new blog post that covers the most critical fundamentals. Itβs chock full of interactive demos. π
Check it out:
a thin white woman in head to toe lululemon screaming at these thugs makes me think ICE has jumped the shark
Trump is like please hate these Black people. donβt worry about the Epstein files. you all hate Black people, remember?
Reel it in, bud.
If you took a time machine back to November to warn the voting public that six months into Trumpβs second term heβd be about to pardon a convicted sex trafficker you might have been forcibly institutionalized 12 Monkeys-style.
