In 2024, the Australian Style Guide started recommending an en dash with spaces on either side – like this – because apparently it's easier to read than a hyphen in digital content, which still doesn't adequately explain why you wouldn't use an em dash when it's right there.

100% this. Like I can't count the amount of times I've heard someone say we need to stop wfh due to covid to get back into the cbd and boost hospitality (and also the pockets of office landlords).
