I often wonder what nostalgia entails for members of colonized societies; those who cannot pinpoint or recall the colonization of their land or who have never known a time when their space was not colonized. Image: City of Van 1893).
“Nostalgia” originally meant “the sad mood originating from the desire to return to one’s native land.” It is fascinating to see how the original emphasis on place shifted to an emphasis on time as the concept evolved.
