So excited to share our new work led by my awesome PhD student Hyland Gonzalez. She shows transcriptional effects of CYP2E1 deletion in alcohol naive mice and then goes on to show that mice lacking CYP2E1 drink more at baseline and escalate their drinking more after CIE compared to WT mice. 🍸🐁

MitoTracker transfers from astrocytes to neurons independently of mitochondria The neuroprotective transfer of mitochondria from astrocytes to neurons has been primarily investigated by labelling astrocytic mitochondria with the dye MitoTracker. Here we report that MitoTracker transfers to neurons from both astrocytes and astrocyte-conditioned media, independently of mitochondrial transfer. Our observations should prompt an essential re-evaluation of the literature concerning astrocyte-neuron mitochondrial transfer and in other systems in which contact-independent transfer has been observed using mitochondrial dyes. ### Competing Interest Statement The authors have declared no competing interest. RFK Jr. asks CDC for new measles treatment guidance amid his unfounded claims Kennedy claimed that drugs like budesonide and clarithromycin "have been shown very effective" for measles, but doctors say they don't fight the infection itself.

β€˜Kennedy told reporters that there were "many, many good ways to treat measles and doctors need to know that and to know those methods.’

One problem; there is no treatment for measles. Signed, a doctor who’s been forced to deal with measles because of this stupid fraud.

RFK Jr. is very loud and very WRONG about Autism.

1. It’s not a disease
2. There are thousands of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder who pay taxes, have jobs, can use the bathroom on their own, and are thriving in life.

chatgpt has fully broken-through to every facet of the corporate environment. I'm spending a not-insignificant amount of my time every week now explaining to people that just because chatgpt told you that something was possible doesn't mean that it a) is or b) even exists

In 15 yrs of reporting, I've never had so many health & biomed researchers & outreach orgs tell me they're afraid to talk w/press or barred from speaking bc of new comms policies.

I understand the fear of losing funds. I don't know if silence does more harm than good. If you can speak up, pls do.

NIH spending more than pays for itself. It generates about $2.5 for every $1 spent. In terms of research productivity, NIH funding dwarfs the rest of the world. The only long-term potential rival is China. Politicizing the NIH's scientific processes will hand China a huge strategic advantage.

RFK Jr.: It Would Be Better if β€˜Everybody Got Measles’ β€œThe measles gave you lifetime protection against measles infection,” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Sean Hannity on Fox News.

Having had a kid die of measles in my arms as a doctor in the DR Congo, I respectfully disagree that this would be better. Vaccines save lives.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.
