It’s not much, but from Albuquerque, NM I’m pretty excited!
@minaschultz
Turn ons: Medicaid expansion, ACA subsidies, warthogs Turn offs: Medicaid work requirements, using “universal health care” & “Medicare for all” interchangeably, paper cuts Former policy wonk now enjoying clay, shelter cat socializing, & learning florals 🌻
It’s not much, but from Albuquerque, NM I’m pretty excited!
Tell me you don’t understand risk pools without telling me you don’t understand risk pools
Me too!!
So incredibly generous. This shelter does go above and beyond to get the services needed to ensure these pets get to the right homes. Thank you!
Bobina update: She. Is. Home. The shelter has worked hard to find what works for this girl, & she has been matched!! Rubber mats have made her a walking machine. @darthbluesky.bsky.social is hibernating real soon so wanted to end the season on a high note! Wobbly, yes! Given up on love, no! Xo Bobs

Not entirely sure what happened, but she came in with her nose in rough shape and had to have surgery, so it’s hairless.
Bobina’s in the Halloween spirit 👻 This happy girl is still seeking her family. This shelter is also now offering 1 year free vet services, in case you know of anyone able to welcome a disabled kitteh… she is truly the loviest girl.

I’ve not observed this in her in our interactions, but happy to see of a staff vet has any thoughts when I go back in a couple days!
Bobina update (CW - wobbly kitty syndrome depicted): Still seeking her family, and trying a new accessible litter box. Cerebellar hypoplasia is no joke, but she’s the happiest girl as long as you provide 1, snuggles, and 2, wormies.

I’ve lived a lot of places, and only call a couple “home.” This is one. The courage of these folks to come out to protest in a place like this is unmatched. The kindness and support WVians show their neighbors, no matter where they come from, is incredible. These people didn’t vote for this.
CW wobbly kitty, but she gets around great, and never gives up for scritches and snuggles. Also, look at that foofy tail!

Meet Bobina. She has “wobbly cat syndrome,” a condition that affects her balance. It’s the only life she’s ever known, & is a happy, silly girl who loves snuggling. Sadly, she’s landed back at the shelter. Note: bored by health policy 😂

If you’re self-employed, a farmer, an early retiree, who isn’t super “online,” and you’ve just learned your premium is going to go up by $30K next year, would you be signing up for ACA in a couple weeks? Even if there is a change now, millions who have counted on Obamacare for decades will be lost.
@darthbluesky.bsky.social drum roll…
FRANKIE FOUND A HOME! So sad I won’t see that handsome face anymore, but he deserves all the love and treats and pets. Thanks everyone for following his journey, it was nice sharing him with you!!
- Undoc ppl can’t qualify for fed-funded health care
- Doc ppl are eligible to *purchase* insurance but the admin is cutting who, like refugees & asylees, even more
- Doc ppl have a 5yr wait for Medicaid
- Dems want affordability & accessibility extended *for those who qualify.*
THE GOP👏IS👏LYING👏
I do know that other cats do stress him out (living in NYC with a roommate in my older years irritated me too). But not sure about dogs, I’ll look into to it!
Cupid is actually NINETEEN years old so he deserves to be pissed 😂 (he’s a v good boy, just demands more helpings of dinner)
@darthbluesky.bsky.social update: So sad to report that Frankie is still @ the shelter today, 9/29. But that just means his fam is still out there! If you know anyone in the SW who wants a silly floof, check out his profile (he’s still open, give them a call!)

@darthbluesky.bsky.social can we all cross our fingers for Frankie today? He was in a house fire and has been at the shelter for many weeks. He’s such a love bug, he deserves the best family and I think they may have arrived today. I go back Monday and I’m hoping he’ll be gone to his forever home 🤞
Ironically, I’m celebrating my 14th cancerversary today - the day my bone tumor was cut out of my knee. And I prob wouldnt be here without leucovorin. Osteosarcoma patients depend on this drug for the best outcomes. The inevitable shortages will terrorize patients and even endanger their lives.
I read to the shy cats at the local shelter on a weekly basis and am training them to review their own health policy papers. Let us know if you ever need an expert paw!
Mina shows off her upper arm band-aids after getting her covid, flu, and tetanus shots. She is giving a silly scowl and wearing a navy blue Zohran for New York City tee with the sleeves rolled up.
TRIPLE vaxxed! So excited to get my COVID shot today, along w flu & tetanus (was due -every 10 years, y’all!). If you can, I highly recommend doing it now. I usually wait a bit longer, but ACIP (federal vax committee) meets next week, & we can’t predict what the RFK admin will do as far as access.
I live in New Mexico and people, on more than one occasion, have stopped me to tell me they like my tee. @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social
My Jack White… 10/10 anti-fascist.
So proud of my friend @minaschultz.bsky.social who had this article published in her local Albuquerque newspaper. She is an excellent health policy specialist. New Mexico is very lucky to have her. please read this article when you get a chance. Thank you.

When I was helping people navigate the ACA marketplace, my clients w/ subsidies included retired coal miners, the owner of the local diner, and parents caring for their disabled adult children. Congress has had plenty of time to act. They know what’s at stake. Rs are *choosing* to increase costs.
And there will be 90% fewer Navigators to help enrollees review their options and find other coverage. Navs, under the ACA, provide free, expert, community-based, trusted, unbiased health insurance counseling, education, and outreach. Trump slashed their funding as one of his first acts in office.
