We already know that lagged effects in CLPMs are likely to be upwardly biased, but just how easy is it to find significant effects? Way too easy. I tested CLPMS in 100 randomly selected pairs of correlated variables and found significant effects in 98 of them. New preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps...

New preprint!
Many claim that first sex is a huge risk for teens. We tested that claim in a large, nationally representative German sample. Core question: Do first sexual experiences harm adolescents, or do they reflect prior well-being?

When we measure personality multiple times in a study, does it matter if we ask people about their personality *in general* or *since the last time point*?
Turns out: yes!
We found differences in internal consistency, Ms, & SDs but not in the underlying constructs π§΅

Overall, our findings offer valuable insight into the conceptual (dis)similarity of personality traits & personality functioning, inform joint theoretical frameworks, and may advance treatment of personality disorders by identifying conditions in which changes may be expected or best captured

What'd we find? (continued)
3) Event perceptions & initial personality levels sometimes predicted heterogeneity in event-related changes, but mostly for mean-level effects
Initial personality functioning frequently moderated event-related changes in the Big Five, but the reverse was less common

What'd we find? (continued)
2) Life events were related to personality development, but almost exclusively for personality functioning
We believe this suggests that personality functioning is more susceptible to external influences than most Big Five traits

What'd we find?
1) Unconditional development of all constructs was generally very similar, but there were some interesting trait- & metric-specific differences

We had 3 research questions:
1) How do personality functioning and the Big Five traits unconditionally develop over one year?
2) How does their development change in response to life events?
3) Can we predict individual differences in event-related changes?

New paper out at the Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science!
We examined unconditional & event-related changes in pathological vs normal-range personality using 4 metrics to compare their developmental links, how these vary with life events, and whether unique effects emerge across metrics
