Drizzle, sideways rain, or when you’re doing an activity: umbrella bad

Heavy rain, just commuting, wearing nice outfit*, hair done nicely: umbrella good

*nice outfits are worn .01% of the time by portlanders

My umbrella take is that they’re good. Maybe it was the decade in DC, but I am pro umbrella now. You can just… not get wet!

I’d rather people be signaling virtue than vice! I’m happy to know my neighbors are at least a bit virtuous!

But for real, this is the 3rd time someone has tried to steal my ebike in Portland. Bike theft is a genuine detriment and disincentive to everyday riding.

Seriously though did my man try to do this with kitchen scissors and a bic lighter?

I think this is 100% in the realm of possibility *in a situation* where both sides continue to escalate and everyone in the regime eventually realizes it’s either full scale ground war or losing face by walking away or nuking

I guess what I’m seeing here is: I’m a cyclist/I barely drive, but now my taxes are going up to subsidize drivers, and gas taxes going down will incentivize more driving. That’s not totally fair, I know, but oof. Still, PBOT needs the money I guess, and the mayor is right that a vote would go poorly

“Iran has no reason to perpetuate the war” idk man, their leader just had his mother, father, wife, and son killed by us/Israel.

Also woke 1.0 was wrong about some stuff, but whatever; batting average is still HOF material

e.g. “Toxic masculinity” is a true and useful concept, but it was understood by the broader culture as rank misandry. Gotta meet people where they are at; back to the drawing board!

I think woke 1.0 vs 2.0 is a useful distinction and project not because woke 1.0 was wrong about anything, but because woke 1.0 actually radically overestimated the ability of Americans to engage in intellectual discourse and introspection and self driven personal growth

This is what people mean when they talk about woke 1.0.

It’s not that it’s unserious, it’s that it’s a homonym for a word that means “cum”

Complicating factor: 092871 is my ex bf’s birthday so it’s easily chunked to me even tho to anyone else it looks fully random. Natural chunking is in the eye of the beholder

A very fun anecdote is how subsidizing and expanding rural broadband led to more polarization and extremism in the hinterlands and provinces. You can’t solve that with tolerance and open arms.

I am sure the guy whose wife, dad, and son were all just murdered by Israel will be chill and will be *totally* happy to let this war wind down on America’s schedule. No risk of a future attack from him after the war ends either, I’m sure he’s happy to leave it all in the rear view mirror
