It takes Balsam Karam's novel The Singularity (@feministpress.bsky.social/@fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social) as a launching point for thinking through latent space as a political space where subjectivity and collectivity are being fundamentally remade.
I'm pleased to share my contribution to @politicalgeography.bsky.social's AI forum: "The Latent Subject: AI, Recognition, and the Politics of Latent Space": www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
A heartfelt thank-you to @ohalpern.bsky.social and Robert for their generous and thought-provoking responses to my (sometimes overly long!) questions, and to the editors for their kind invitation to contribute!
Some time ago, I had the pleasure (privilege, really) of conversing with Orit Halpern (@ohalpern.bsky.social) and Robert Mitchell about their book 'The Smartness Mandate'. The result of that exchange is now published in the latest issue of 'I Quaderni di Into the Black Box': bit.ly/3TMXwX5
Rethinking urban AI: a critical posthumanist perspective on intelligence, autonomy, and agency by @fabio-iapaolo.bsky.social and @casey-lynch.bsky.social in Urban Geography www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
We hope this might open new directions for engaging the politics of urban AI and for broadening the questions geographers and others ask about emerging sociotechnical systems.
In it, we complicate how the human subject is invoked in urban scholarship on AI by rethinking intelligence, autonomy, and agency through a posthumanist lens.
Excited to share a new open access article with @casey-lynch.bsky.social, just out in @urbangeography.bsky.social:
