The Memory Shades: Watkins gives us ghosts, guilt, and giant worms. A slow burn that earns its explosive finale. Sci-fi horror that remembers the people matter most.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 6230:
Writing is freedom. You are free to write whatever you like, in whatever way you like. You're free to take advice, or not. You're free to describe the real world, or to build it differently. Your successes, your mistakes, your decisions belong to you. Own them.
THE SMALL HOURS by Bob Pastorella. Cover art by Betty Rocksteady. Blurb by Michael David Wilson, comping the book to Peter Jackson and Adrian Lyne.
THE SMALL HOURS, my splatterpunk vampire novel published by @ghoulish.bsky.social wants to sink its fangs into you.

It's funny, it's horny, and it's very, very bloody.
No argument from me. I think your point about the liminality of the sub genre and also how powerful it can be are the main standouts for me.
I do think there is some subjectivity to the definition but I'm hoping that we can keep it from becoming so wide-encompassing that it's use as a term becomes meaningless (personally I blame the marketing folk π
).
Let the arguments begin!
I think it's a hangover from thrillers where people seem to only want a deranged (and implausible) twist.
Personally, I like the gut punch of a character being dealt an inevitable fate.

Fantastic new novel out today from my friend @danhowarth20.bsky.social.
LIONHEARTS is an ugly story, one thatβs difficult to read, but that makes it all the more important.

I get the feeling @danhowarth20.bsky.social's new one is going to have some very big and important things to say about the state of this country...
A mainly text heavy graphic says: From pen to print: Dan Howarth on Lionhearts. Dan is pictured at right in black and white, alongside the book's cover, a striking image of a lion's head face-on in blue ink.
With his gritty new novel unleashed tomorrow, 21 November, on his own Northern Republic Press, @danhowarth20.bsky.social walks us through the genesis of his βvery nearly bookβ, Lionhearts.

π«THE HAUNTING OF WOUNDED BIRDS is live on the feast of Martinmas, old Halloween, cover designed by @kealanpatrickburke.bsky.social β a coming-of-age folk horror steeped in secrets & tragedy.
Dark forests. Black birds. Old rituals. Haunted boys.

A split graphic. On the left the book cover for a horror anthology, Blood In The Bricks, depicts a sinister figure with a rat's head standing in a dirty lane with a spray can in his hand. The tones are yellow and brown with splashes of red. On the right, "Nineteen chilling tales of urban folk horror" and several glowing endorsement quotes.
It's officially launch day for Blood In The Bricks! It's folk horror, but right here in our towns and cities, written by some of my absolute favourite contemporary writers. Get it now (or They'll pay you a visit).
