That museum night shift worker has the last laugh. They’re the best paid author of us all!
Every year, I get a cheque from the Canada Council for the Arts through the Public Lending Right Program, which compensates authors for library books. Over 18,000 Canadian authors benefit! Shoutout to our amazing local librarians! #Local #Libraries #Author #Canada
C3PO said it best :-)
Very cool ball-grenade thingy!
Nope, my memory fails me- she cosplayed as a different bounty hunter, Bousch- my childhood memory rewrote that as Boba Fett. :-)
Also, as a kid who saw RotJ in theatres, let’s all remember Leia masqueraded as Boba Fett in Jaba the Hut’s lair. The story young girls (like me) concocted from that was priceless!
if I ever am in a position where I need to teach romance plot structure, I’m tempted to use Alien. Meet cute, separation and forces trying to push the lovers apart…
I always thought Aliens had a nice romantic arc. Meet cute, crucial relationship misunderstandings, intimacy, pregnancy scare… all the hallmarks or, well, Hallmark!
Oh yes- 80s rules are crucial. Also rated ‘M for Mel’ (looking at you Thunderdome).
Just happened to look over and…
Spawn write offs ftw!
When they come to claw back your spawn deductions, give em heck, Brennan!

Looking to polish up your draft for submission to agents?
I do a free mentorship for one writer every year, working with them on their draft. The 2026 program just opened 🔥
Here are all the details ⤵️
I love all of the ‘Canadian’ products popping up in stores and (most egregiously) on Amazon. A few months ago all were proudly touted as ‘made in America’. Hello, Canada washing! 🙂
But yes- Cheerios as a platform would be clear and symbolic.
I know what’s featuring in my next short story. Though I’m making mine alien;-) apple.news/AeV0h6IiNRWu...
The local raw dairy farm that accidentally poisons a festival… or was it accidental?
Oh, and it gets worse. I called the bacteria responsible when my spousal unit sent me this … arstechnica.com/health/2026/...
Wow…
Ok- northwest coast folks- super important question here. Is it me or are our invasive stink bugs (smell like grass) getting dumber? I’ve had 1 stumble out of my oven, another fly into my coffee… am I the only one noticing the decline in self preservation?
‘It takes time to fix what is broken.’
Or, you know…sink.
The cover for GOD'S JUNK DRAWER by Peter Clines, showing a dinosaur skeleton in a black void, along with a space suit helmet, a human skull, a bionic arm, and a stone-tipped spear. A yellow banner reading "Only From Audible" stretches across one corner.

YOU'RE ALWAYSorry, where's the music? Are we not doing the song again this time?
I just thought, y'know, it went over so well before and since this is the *audio* release, we'd want...
Really? An actual cease and desist letter?
Okay then.
It's out tomorrow.
‘I mean… what is intellectual property? We don’t really need that, right? At least, that’s what my AI assistant keeps telling me. Really, think of it as me doing your IP a favor… ‘ sigh.
@scalzi.com Hey John! I'm course planning for the new semester, and I'm using your essay on using testing LLMs on your own bio as part of my section on ChatGPT. Just wanted to give you a heads up that on April 2 you might notice a bunch of sullen responses -- students have to comment for class.
I have heard that reference a few times!
Anyone else watching season 2 of the Pitt? I was ‘that’ person in uni who couldn’t stop themselves throwing out House theories. It often resulted in pillows being thrown when I turned out to be right. Fond memories + cell biology PhD for the plot win!
I Know? Right!?
@brennanml.bsky.social - we’re prophetic. She could have pulled it off the pages of our novel. people.com/woman-accuse...
Absolutely. There’s a HUGE difference between takedowns and constructive criticism - @stephenblackmoore.com has a great critiquing series on that topic - weeding out those kinds of voices? Also good.
