What’s Happening With Tuberculosis Is a Terrible Tragedy. The Person Who Can Make Sense of It Isn’t Who You’d Expect. John Green’s latest book might seem like a departure—at first.

I spoke with @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social about his newest book "Everything Is Tuberculosis." It's an important and terrifyingly-relevant story about one of the deadliest diseases in human history—and the decisions we make to keep it alive.

An incredibly generous piece from @slate.com that centers Henry Reider. Grateful to Tony Ho Tran for interviewing Henry and capturing so much of his passion. slate.com/technology/2...

I AM SORRY BUT I AM SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS (in a cute way, probably). I want to spend the next six hours trying to read this paper just out of spite to whoever thinks new infinities and casual belong in the same sentence.

the first sentence of the actual paper is so NOT CASUAL that I can't even parse it and so long that I can't fit in this post and had to take a screenshot instead! arxiv.org/pdf/2411.11568

the why is that we are calculating a semi-annual interest payment and so we want to know what happens for six months of the year (and there are 12 months in a year) and would that really have been so hard to just say

I am taking a financial accounting class this semester and the show-me-how video for this HW problem just suggested I

"multiply by the fraction six twelfths"

with no explanation as to why and I mean I guess that is better than just saying to divide by two or something but also WHY NOT EXPLAIN WHY

I LOVE it so far! I have a small team of two analysts and an IR director who are so smart and talented and it's an honor to work with them. Part of why I was hired was to bring an empathetic, intentional/thoughtful perspective to the role, which is simple to me (and I like simple)!
