I loved pro wrestling as a kid. But I never liked Hulk Hogan. I more or less rooted for the good and booed the bad. Hogan just wasn't for me. But he was unavoidable. It seemed like he'd never go away. That song. The posing. It went on and on. But eventually, wrestling moved on. And now he's dead.

Religious traditions have been very important to many social justice movements throughout history both in the U.S. and internationally, a tradition for which I try to maintain respect even in my lack of faith. It's cool if you agree, but it is also cool if you find my lack of faith disturbing.

I don't mean that this kind of knowledge is necessary to be a non-believer. And I also mean no disrespect to people of faith. Though not a believer myself in any sense, I have less a problem with religious faith as such and more a problem with how some people use it.

If more people understood that there were a lot of cultures/traditions with a sacrificial god/man figure in their mythos AND there were a lot of prophetic millennial types similar to Jesus running around at the time, it might lead more people to question his divinity, etc.

Can't read this without realizing "historical Jesus" has the same syllable emphasis breakdown as the King Missile song "Detachable Penis."

A person like me should never be able to observe some of the top political appointees and elected officials in key positions and credibly think, "I could do better."
