sitting with friends and family in the artist's private dining area I looked across the room to see tony alone at one table and bill bruford with his wife over there at another. I thought, "well somebody has to do something!"
so I walked over to tony and pointed to bill, who then came over. I said to bill and tony, "there's a woman at my table who says she's willing to pay to take a picture of us." "how much?" I said, "fifteen dollars? we can split it three ways." that's all it took.
I like robert's caption: three of a perfect quartet.
ps: I had several lovely conversations with bill and some with pete roth as well. their set was perfectly what one would hope for. so great to hear bill play as though it was yesterday.

The thing is “Roxy Erickson” is a legit great description for a band esp if they could live up to it. I would have used that description in the OC Recycler or on the flyer board of Music Mart in Costa Mesa in 1989

Bud Coleman’s discography is kinda insane www.discogs.com/artist/49054... but won't bury the lede. That’s him doing the guitar on Nancy's “As Tears Go By” www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbBI...

Here’s an unexpected connection: My brother-in-law’s father was the writer of “Tijuana Taxi.” May I introduce Ervan “Bud” Coleman and his son Greg. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ervan_C... - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory...

The convention of naming your psychedelic/droney band with a mashup name (you know the ones) is completely out-of-hand but if I ever get into that racket, I'm staking a claim on "Roxy Erickson"

I liked the 30 episode version a lot - reminded me more of a telenovela and I’m down with any show where the leads always take a time out for noodles and beer and make light of what’s happening in the episode. In the Netflix version, I want the Trisolarians to win.

Now more than ever I’m convinced losing Anthony Bourdain meant we lost probably the biggest person on tv who advocated for the wonders of meeting new people and calling anyone online who hated learning new cultures the children they were, ruthlessly to the camera.

When Aliso Viejo got so worked up about the presence of dihydrogen monoxide (it’s everywhere! it’s in your styrofoam cup!) it almost banned the presence of the chemical before realizing it was water. This was in 2004 well before smartphones accelerated everything.
