Really proud of PhD student Mary McMahon for leading. Findings were critical to developing ANCHOR (Aphasia: Nurturing Connections, Honoring Ongoing Relationships), a program designed to help people with #aphasia maintain pre-stroke friendships, improving social inclusion and #mentalhealth.

UPDATE: Submitted to another, higher impact journal where reviewers applauded methods and gave a decision of Accept pending minor revisions. Thanks for all of the help and encouragement!

So sorry to hear this. Another colleague suggested editors and reviewers are using AI as well, which may be why the comments are so off base.

We do. And fortunately have some funding to make it open access so it gets the readership we were hoping for in our first journal choice.

Yes, I did that in the first email with the appeal and the editor just doubled down. I actually pointed to multiple papers published in the journal over the last year or two.

I wish it was a reviewer. This was a dead reject from an editor.

Thank you @ginnybraun.bsky.social. I had some of these but not all. The most frustrating part is that a recent PhD student is the first author and the study highlights experiences of healthcare in a marginalized population. We will find a better home for our study with reviewers who improve it!

Our qualitative study got desk reject for β€œsample size” & β€œvalidity”. Appealed & reply said we should add 1)coder reliability & 2)numerical data in a table to justify β€œtheme saturation” for paper to go to review. I’ve published qual work for 9 years & don’t know how to deal w/ this quant bias. Help!

I have taken this course myself and recommend it to any researcher or clinician wishing to start their own peer befriending schemes or similar programs. I learned a ton we are now implementing through our local #aphasia center.
