Announced yesterday by the team, DC Power's away match against Brooklyn FC, originally scheduled for April 18th, has been moved up to March 7th. Kickoff will be at 2pm ET.
It's genuinely pretty sad, what's happening to Tormenta. Their owner really didn't do anything wrong. He's a local guy, who wanted to do something special and meaningful in his community. The academy is great. This is just how hard it is to run lower-league soccer here. It's brutal financially.
USL needs to understand the clubs can’t just survive on matchday revenue alone.
First starting XI of the season for DCU against Philadelphia Union.
And that's why the USLC is fighting so hard for extended compensation in the event a team folds. Players are completely fucked two weeks before a season - most clubs are done with their roster buildouts, good luck finding nearly 20 roster spots across the league.
Lot of smoke seeming like fire around Tormenta FC folding two weeks before the USL League One season. Just brutal. Looking briefly through the current CBA for L1, it seems like non-'for cause' terminations require paying 45-days of salary within 14 days of termination. That's all players get.
And, by the way, this would also mean that FC America CFL Spurs of the UPSL would reach the second round of the USOC due to Tormenta forfeiting. CC: @thecup.us
We currently have 16 players on the roster expecting another announcement hopefully soon bringing us to 17. On top of that 3 players awaiting visas. Hopefully before the season opener should have more than 20 players on the roster. I’m excited for this season tbh. 🤩

CONMEBOL is appealing the FIFA Peace Prize.
It's the smart thing for the league to do. It's also the right thing to do.
This is a pivotal moment in time for the league and I'm hoping it can meet it, but I am skeptical they will. They seem to care more about flash and fake promises than players thriving and building something sustainable
It's in USL's best interests to cave in here. The longer this continues, the more the public who may or may not have a strong opinion on USL look at the league as yet another house of cards in sports, like the USFL or NASL back in the day.
Can't have growth without investment.
USL talks a big game but seems destined to fail because it isn't substantively professional. Expanding too quickly, not vetting the financial stability of prospective teams, and forgetting that the players are professionals without which the league does not exist to revolutionize soccer in America
Several teams, including @indyeleven.bsky.social do not have dedicated homes of their own, as well. How can we compete at higher levels and standards if we don’t have the infrastructure to support those standards?
And my big fear. I’m not saying MLS is an answer to American soccer. I love the grassroots of USL, and am a supporter of a USL Championship team, but to establish legitimacy, we absolutely need the USL to step up their game on how they treat and compensate players.
USL Has Little Leverage In Continued CBA Negotiations With Championship Players Association.

Usl should do this for clubs that can’t financially go fully pro but wants to get there eventually especially with Pro/rel happening in a few years
