I'm tired of being told that extra work is "no big deal" or "it won't take long" by people who will never have to do the extra work.

Announcing and running the scoreboard for state playoff game tonight. Can't beat the view.
'Lead' and 'read' rhyme.
Unless you're saying 'lead' and 'read.'
But also 'lead' and 'read' rhyme.
Do other professions deal with the guilt trips from management to "remember your why" during stressful times as a cheap deflection from actually solving structural problems or paying for the extra workload about to be dumped on your plate? Seems like just educators, but I could be wrong. #edusky

Woolen has been a liability all season. No shock that he gives them a fresh set of downs then gets beat for a touchdown on the next play.
Seems to be a lack of focus from Arsenal. Sloppy passes, poor touches, and completely unaware of surroundings.
Back to work tomorrow. At least my class is covering the robber barons this week, so I have some modern/real world connections to work with.
With our propensity to give up late goals recently, we really need another goal or two early in the second half.
Married into a Mexican family, so now I get Christmas starting on the 24th and a piรฑata of Santa. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.
Someone just tagged this post from November 2024. Maybe I should do a signed paperback giveaway? I'll pick one at 5 pm CST tomorrow at random from the likes. You don't even have to follow or repost ... but it would be nice if you did!
Thanksgiving is not a colonial/Pilgrim holiday. Itโs a Civil War holiday. & we think otherwise in part because of the Lost Cause. ๐๏ธ

I am proud of the team while being disappointed. I think we overperformed this year. In any given playoff game, the opposing pitchers got to many easy outs with Canzone, Robles, and Rivas. Toronto could do damage with all 9 batters and that was the difference in the series.
Mariners were so close to a first world series. Bummed right now. They might not get back to the playoffs for another couple decades. End of the day, the 7-9 hitters would probably strike out playing tball.

Great timing as I taught this image today in my high school US history classes. Lots of connections to be made for those informed students.

My stress levels would be much lower, especially when my classes are 35+ students like they are right now. And I would be much more present and focused during the days with students.
I've been thinking about the benefits of a 4 day school week w/ teachers working all five days. I would be a much more effective teacher those 4 days with students if I had the 5th day to plan, prep, grade, give feedback, collab with colleagues, etc. Just a random Sunday thought. #edusky
As we head into the school year, Iโm as grateful as ever for our nationโs hard-working educators. If you agree, please let the teachers & homeschoolers in your life know about Rick Steves Classroom Europeโa free & ad-free library of 600 video clips covering history, art, music, culture & geography.
What if students had more say in how they learn? That's the promise of student agency and it works.

I think there is a subset of students who are self-motivated and intrinsically driven that excel in online learning; however, my experience has been that the majority of students benefit more from in-person learning. #edchat
If I have to pass the same blood born pathogen training every single year to teach, maybe Congress should have to pass a test over the Constitution every year as well. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
If they still have them, I enjoy Father Brown, Vera, and Death in Paradise.
As a teacher of AP Human Geography, I feel like it's important to point out that the people making a lot of the current national policy decisions probably would have failed my class based on their policies and arguments. #edusky
This makes me sad. How does this make us better as a people or a nation?
Just spent two days at the Northern Cass Personalized Learning Institute. I presented two well attended sessions and was able to attend some sessions to learn from others. This work fills my cup.
After watching most of the major media outlets fail miserably to do their damn jobs, at least we have @rollingstone.com doing the work of actual journalism.
