Pretty soon the government will once more be wailing "Why can't our universities attract international talent any more? Must be all those mickey mouse courses they offer! Close those and get more AI!"
@lyndac
Writer, reader, gamer. Still mostly bogling to Aswad. https://wouldyouliketochangethedifficultysetting.wordpress.com/ Any pronouns. No alt text? No follow, no matter how cool & interesting you are. There will be swears.

In a divided world, are our fictional stories still important? @marykgames.com argues - yes!

Once again, my blood is boiling.
It's that time again - seeing loads of alt-textless stuff that I'd probably ordinarily reskeet, but without alt-text, NOPE. If you can't be bothered to make your posts accessible, I can't be bothered to share them.
A screenshot of the accessibility tab in my Bluesky settings, showing the alt text toggled on "require alt text before posting" Btw alt text is also a fun place to shamelessly editorialize on your post and there ain't no character limit. Go ahead and share the Canterbury Tales here plus throw in a random Fuck or Shitass. It's a delightful pastime
Friends, please use Alt Text whenever you post images. It helps those with sight issues understand your sparkling captions & assists those of us who are hopelessly unhip in getting your references. Just toggle it in the settings for a reminder every time you share a bot mot, THANKYOUSOMUCH
This was such a great conversation - I was fired up the rest of the day. :) The whole Kaleidoscope project has been such a great meeting of the minds
I just keep wondering what the author (if indeed it is human authored) thought that sentence means.
More teens are sidling up. Is this a Known Thing that happens? Passing locals seem confused, but they're not kids, so
If I wasnt sober, id think I was hallucinating.
They each have a role. One is holding the boom box (didnt know they were still a thing) one is holding the lights and the other has a microphone and is doing shoutouts. All dancing.
I'm in Markinch, by the way, not Edinburgh. A little village. Amazed police have not yet been called. π
They're listening to Scooter and screaming.
Waiting for a bus home after the one I waited for for 30 mins sailed blithely past. 3 pre-teen girls are having a rave in the car park with a massive boom box and disco lights. I do not understand.

Iβm a trans artist with a silly little sticker shop. Any income from my shop goes towards making free stickers for kids. transarcana.etsy.com
3) Plagiarism and copyright laws already exist for those who overstep. They may be imperfect (some who should be prosecuted weasle out of it and some who have very clearly only been loosely influenced get unfairly dinged) but they are often applied. AI companies are asking to be excluded from this.
2) Unless they are the most prolific pirate alive, most writers/creators *have* paid for the vast majority of the works they are inspired by, whether through direct purchase or via libraries or schools (who essentially pay on their behalf). AI companies have not.
There are a few reasons:
1) AI doesn't 'learn' anything. It pattern matches. It has no actual knowledge, so it's essentially taking the information for the first time each time and remixing it. It's never applying anything new or consciously combining elements.
A few of the comments on this are sniffily asking how it's so different for an AI to 'learn' from copyrighted works when humans do that all the time. I get it- this was one of the first questions my colleagues and I asked ourselves when starting GenAI research before GenAI was everywhere.
Her mum has now tactfully told her the bubbles go further if she's out in the open and led her out of the seated area π
Kid at the train station keeps blowing bubbles at me and I keep moving and her dad is also moving to block her and she's still getting me.
Starting to feel bullied.

Which is to say that automated tagging is a fairly innocuous use of AI but this is said in the same breath as "translation", a much larger area and one which DEFINITELY requires a human.
It's rarely the use cases themselves, but the way things are falsely equated that are worrying when companies have these "AI optimisation" reviews. (See last reskeet)
Jesus...
kill the imposter syndrome in you head because not only is there someone out there doing it worse than you, they're also using chat gpt to do it
Anyways.

Genuinely think this guy might have actually been a fey messing with humans.
I swirled it together, it was fine but I had so many questions. I watched him use the milk foamer, yet the milk was not foamy when it came out. The two components were separate in a way I would not have thought chemically possible.
The other day I got a coffee at work and it was a new barista. I asked for a latte (if you're a coffee purist who thinks it shouldn't be drunk with milk, get a real problem) and what he served was essentially a shot of espresso with entirely separate hot milk on top.
