The folks profiting from consulting about AI will parrot the “You won’t lose your job to AI…” saying. What they WON’T say is that by job, they mean the function (Accounting, HR, Marketing, etc.) and functions that had 10 will only need 1. So even if you know AI, you’ll have a LOT more competition.

There’s a quiet injustice when people with a safety net talk about “betting on themselves” without admitting someone else is covering the table. If a slow quarter means tightening up (not losing your house) you’re not playing the same game as the sole breadwinner. Effort can be equal. Risk isn’t.
