Thank you!
Thank you! I'll need tips from you closer to my release date (next year)
Thank you!
In solidarity! I'll send you a message
Thank you!--- and: exactly! You get it! I would be completely adrift without writing.
I wrote about exactly this (writing as an anchor) a while ago: open.substack.com/pub/victoria...
Thank you! And hope we get to meet in person one day! I'm in NJ, not far from Manhattan
I mean, I'm generally very hard on myself but right now I am also kind of amazed (if deeply tired) Thank you so much!
Thank you. I am deeply tired, but also sort of amazed!
I TURNED IN MY BOOK MANUSCRIPT. In the past 2 years Iβve dealt with a cancer diagnosis, rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis, several major losses + a totaled car, stolen credit card, the end of my marriage (+ the start of single motherhood), and a million other stressors. I can't believe I finished this
This bizarre clip made me laugh so much.
I needed that (even if it is essentially depressing-- like all satire, I guess)
I re-read Alice in Wonderland recently for an essay (literary nonfiction) I wrote-- basically about how violent Wonderland is, even though she comes out unscathed (vs what happens when we expose children to the threat of violence in the real world) hypertextmag.com/alice/
Me next time I am "nominated" to a committee:
I was a waitress at a time every order required me to punch in numerical codes-- those codes are still taking up space in my brain. Chicken fajitas, no guacamole? I've got you covered: 1451, 86, 35
Does everyone feel a bit like the anteater expert in this classic video from @theonion.com when they finish writing an academic book? This is where I am right now. One of my favorite clips:

@phdhurtbrain.bsky.social, @mattseybold.bsky.social thank you-- I will accept the congrats when I actually turn in the manuscript (nearly there)
I will listen and read as soon as I send my book manuscript to Bloomsbury (which I am supposed to do this week-!)
he is! I need to catch up on his podcast!
On my flight back from Toronto in January I had a very long conversation with my seatmate-- a tech exec-- about technofeudalism. Interesting but depressing.
I agree with this but also the gig economy is a direct result of economic inequality, isn't it?
aw, yay! I was (am) so proud of that issue! Thanks so much for doing the podcast. Your questions were fantastic. Christian Rivoletti told me he got some nice messages from colleagues in Europe too.
Seems so unfair I work for a university in Baltimore but am not there this week. Enjoy AWP, everyone!
wish I were in town!
haha! Halloween Holla Holla! (also probably my favorite too. My daughter likes "Kaleidoscope" but really they're all terrible)
I took a break from work to make lunch, mindlessly put on Spotify, and realized (after several minutes) that I was listening to terrible music from Gabby's Dollhouse. My daughter is not even here. That is how completely fried I am right now.
This is how you write a goddamn headline.
@mattseybold.bsky.social another vote for: please put this on your podcast!
I had the exact same thought while watching her! No wonder Trump and his ilk hate her. Small men can't handle brilliant women who are not afraid of them.
I was just watching a clip of Hillary Clinton (after a photo of her from a closed disposition was leaked) and was reminded of how she compares to many of the men around her-- she's tougher and smarter by miles
I did! The U.S. is so backwards in this respect (and in many other ways, especially recently)
