When Skarloey broke down he was moved to a shed out of the way & Rheneas was left to run the line alone. The coaches tried to cheer him up but with less & less passengers Rheneas felt the burden of reasonability deeply.

Today is 80 years since the Reverend W. Awdry’s first Railway Series book.

A keen railway enthusiast, Awdry first visited the Talyllyn Railway in 1952. His experiences as a volunteer inspired the creation of the Skarloey Railway.

Here are two scenes I made today for my upcoming 80th anniversary video:

A black and white sketch of two hostile unicorns fencing. The one to the right is very slightly bigger and scored with thick scars across their face and chest. It rears up on it’s hind legs and shifts it’s weight with a stoic expression, moments before the second unicorn connects it’s head ram. The second unicorn has an impulsive rage about it. It’s mouth, with it’s long incisors, is open, the mane that wraps around it’s throat is flung back with the force of it’s momentum and it’s white eyes are wide as it’s strides forward on it’s hind legs in a thrusting offence. This attacking unicorn is an unscarred beast, for now.
