When I give talks about the exploitation of GLAM by the AI industry I’m always asked “how can we defend ourselves from bots scraping our metadata?” I have no idea. That’s a question for an engineer. What I can and do say is that we shouldn’t be supporting this industry in the first place.
Excited for someone to eventually do this by getting VC funding for a chatbot that just passes questions to one of the existing chatbots
What if the AI companies started scraping/DDOSing each other instead of GLAM sites? "Our competitor can't have market-share if they can't keep their site online"

Seeing ppl circulate projects whose NEH grants were canceled by DOGE reaffirms my argument about AI as a permission structure. Some grants were canceled w/o a “no” from the generated summary. DOGE had a mandate to slash humanities funding & AI gave them the veneer of a rationale for their actions.
I think this deserves at least as much sustained attention from US media as Claudine Gay's dissertation

Cataloguers, do you have any recs about where I can get a sense of the landscape of the field? What % of original records come from what orgs, what the balance of copy v original cataloguing is done at different kinds of institutions, etc.?
