Yokocho. Zakkyo buildings. Undertrack infill. Ankyo streets that help trace the old features of Meiji Tokyo and the feudal Edo era before it. Dense, low-rise neighborhoods. All of these architectural elements help give Tokyo its one-of-a-kind character.

You forgot MUFG and JAL.
Two huge defensive mistakes for Korea; first on an offline throw from third that allowed a runner wide room to score, and then a play at the plate where the catcher completely misses the runner by planting his glove in the dirt. Not gonna win any games that way.
#Korea #DominicanRepublic about to get underway. Korea can shock the world right here; get some early hits, have the pitching take the crowd out of it. The final line of this game isn’t a foregone conclusion…last #WBC neither team made it out of pool play. Anything can happen.

I don’t think it’s that shocking that he withdrew.
Not to draw too fine a comparison, but when Terunofuji took two tournaments off just to have enough energy to fight through one basho, nobody batted an eye. Give Onosato a break, he’s a generational talent. He will be fine.
Hug your loved ones today. The worst thing that happened to me on March 11 2011 was a worry that my wife and son were not safe. 18,000 lost their lives and many thousands more their property and livelihoods. 2,500 are still missing. The trauma for survivors cannot be overstated.

Announcement of the premiere of LINE, specifically touting the inability of loved ones to communicate during the East Japan Earthquake and tsunami as a selling point
A post on Twitter reminds people of something many have forgotten: When the Great East Japan Earthquake happened 15 years ago, LINE - now Japan's most popular messaging app with 100M users - didn't exist. It was actually developed in response to the disaster.
Those orphaned in a disaster, such as the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, need a supportive environment where they can share their experience of losing family members with others, according to a nonprofit survey.
Grmbl. Foreign parents need to be their mixed child’s advocates. If I say your child is 100% Japanese, don’t counter by “…but they’ll never be completely Japanese.” Yes. They do. They are. Drill that in your mind: holding mixed roots does not mean they’re less Japanese.
Ummmm
I second the motion!

Nachi later collided with Mogami, the sole survivor of Southern Force, in the dark due to a navigational error by Nachi’s bridge crew. The damage from this collision was still under repair when Nachi was sunk in Manila Bay on 5 November 1944. #NavalHistory #ImperialJapaneseNavy 3/3
Unfortunately Shima did not see the wisdom in Nishimura’s suicide mission and lagged well behind, and with little communications. Nachi entered the strait after Nishimura’s ships had been almost completely destroyed by the U.S. 7th Fleet. 2/3
Voce Admiral Shima Kiyohide led the Second Striking Force at Leyte Gulf; a hastily deployed and inadequately briefed small surface group with #Nachi as its flagship. The plan was to join with Vice Admiral Nishimura Shoji’s Southern Force as it approached the #SurigaoStrait on 24 October 1944 1/3
Japan on Tuesday marked the 81st anniversary of the massive U.S. air raid on Tokyo during World War II that is believed to have killed about 100,000 people.

Osprey in its nest overlooking Shelter Island and San Diego Bay
The Japanese friendship bell on Shelter Island.
Took a walk today to the Japanese friendship bell on Shelter Island. Was very windy, with whitecaps and a good chop in San Diego Bay. This osprey had no trouble with the wind.
The Nikkei 225 declined more than 6% as oil broke $100 a barrel and concerns grew that higher energy prices could affect economic growth.
