βA strategy of control uses terror tactics to create a violent resistance to justify its brutal subjugation and as an excuse to change laws enlarging the definition of terrorism and treason. Regimes then use the surrounding chaos and noise to continue its other initiatives.β
Hey coolβ¦ I wrote that enabling conditions text theyβre referring to π. Weβre picking it up again in the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities.
That 95% is Oslo, not Norwayβ¦ each city draws boundaries based on jurisdiction or geography. But of course youβre right that nations have to tackle their O&G industry to make legit progress.
Right?
Osloβs goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 95% (!!!) below 1990 levels by 2030. They already have policies/actions in place to get to 81%.
Canadian cities, take noteβ¦

At Oslo City Hall this evening (where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded) with my spectacular IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Cities colleagues. The IPCC received the Nobel here in 2007, so itβs a beautiful full circle moment.
Our IPCC meeting that starts in Oslo on Monday will be unusually fraught, given the US decision to pull out of virtually all meaningful international collaboration (including the IPCC), escalating threats against Greenland etc.
No better time to reinforce our friendships and trust across borders.
Taking some enjoyment in a prospective studentβs email that starts with the header βDraft reply - (English - concise academic)β
I fear if that we canβt craft a four-line email under our own steam then a PhD might proveβ¦ challenging.
Tell me youβre taking a break! Your being will rememberβ¦
Bunch of stuff! Final tweaks on Mozartβs Fantasy in d minor (k387), Solerβs Sonata in d minor, a fun little Bertini Etude, and a lovely Intermezzo by Manuel Ponce.
Do you play?
I recognize that for an *actual* musician this would be peanuts but alas I am not an actual musician.
I have this goal of playing two hours of piano each day over the holidays and itβs both amazing and totally murdering my poor brain.
It would be cool if someone would throw resources at the Munk Debates podcast so they could improve their audio editing. Hearing the voice get closer to and farther from the mic, the breathing and sighs of the second speaker - super tough (for me) to listen to, despite incredibly important content.
*unfolding π
Tl;dr - sustainability is relational and folding, not one single heroic act; transformation is mostly human, not simply technical. Researchers can/should engage deeply with businesses and others to embed systems thinking into new sustainability experiments.
Itβs a Christmas miracle! Our paper is here: with more than 50 cases of pretty radically sustainable small businesses, and over 100 different practices, we mapped how actions unfolded, and investigated the ecosystem of actors that enabled them.

in 2011, the president of antifa hired me to give fashion consultancy to the organization. i recommended everyone wear navy suits with tan shoes, dress sneakers, and golf polos with slim chinos. if you arrested everyone today wearing these things, you'd destroy antifa
Iβve decided that there IS in fact a god, and sheβs taken it upon herself to teach humans an unforgettable lesson on the difference between correlation and causation, so poof! she creates RFK Jr.
Does anyone on here know whoβs working on small-scale (ideally solar-powered) desalination technology?
Are there examples of this working, particularly in tough contexts like informal settlements/slums?
Diana Fox Carney and Sarah Burch walking into CIGI auditorium for keynote address.
Diana Fox Carney was so generous with her time last week, coming to Waterloo to offer the keynote that kicked off our TRANSFORM projectβs final symposium. She was frank, nuanced, and compelling. I was able to pepper her with questions during our βfireside chatβ - a highlight of the week for me!
Final moments before a much anticipated keynote address by Diana Fox Carney tonight in Waterloo, kicking off our TRANSFORM symposium.
Iβm so looking forward to our βfireside chatβ after her keynote!

Received reviews back on a paper we submitted a couple of months ago and there are ten reviewers! TEN!! Iβm so confused.
Iβm going to have an AI spouse, access to zero verifiably human-made art, and a life expectancy of 200 before I will be able to log in to Editorial Manager without resetting my password every. Single. Time.
Itβs super eerie to notice the not-so-subtle infiltration of AI-generated βcreatorsβ on TikTok. Gross.
Iβm hosting a community-engaged symposium in September thatβs the culmination of a 7-year long multi-country project on sustainability experimentsβ¦ and Iβm SO PSYCHED about the keynote speaker who will launch the event.
(Itβs a big secret until we launch our registration but Iβm all giddy)
Does anyone know if there is a version of Bloombergβs βWhatβs really warming the world?β animation that can be shared/downloaded and embedded in a presentation?? It all seems to be stuck behind paywalls.
