MYC proteins are central regulators of cell growth that, when deregulated, drive the development of many human cancers. His research has been instrumental in revealing how these proteins contribute to the transformation of healthy cells into tumor cells.
This long-standing award, presented annually since 1962, honors scientists who have made outstanding contributions to cancer research and treatment. Martin Eilers was recognized for his groundbreaking work on MYC proteins.

On 13 June 2025, at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Martin Eilers, Chair of our Institute for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, was awarded the Wilhelm Warner Prize 2024.
