Correctly viewed, the Phantom Menace is an excellent and deep 130 minute advertisment for an (excellent) N64 game.

Part of a huge conversation we need to have. Why are corporations allowed more rights to their image than we are to our own? Women trying to get nudes - real or doctored - removed online is onerous or impossible. But Mickey Mouse?

It's so not the point, but this war may unintentionally lead to more decarbonization than any actual net zero policies in the developed world. Which is depressing for many reasons.

Writing is thinking, and done well, it is an amazing way to invite people into a part of your mind to let them take a look around a bit.

I still find it interesting that Sunshine Sketches is his most popular fiction book. The humor in Arcadian Adventures probably stands up better to the test of time.

Worth noting that his textbook "Elements of Political Science" almost certainly outsold any of his fiction books.

I'm pretty open with my criticisms (when I have them) of Alberta oil and gas economics. But I know people with the academic equivalent of PTSD from former royalty reviews. So I'm gonna do a bit of self-censoring here.

Alberta's post-payout royalty rate on oil sands production maxes out at 40% of profits at a WTI price of $120CAD/bbl (~$90USD/bbl).

This galaxy brain it’s-all-about-China’s-oil talking point drives me *insane*

Only reason China was able to buy so much discounted crude from Ven/Irn/Ruz was because of US sanctions, largely imposed by the Trump admin(!), which scared off other buyers and left them all to China.

My very unpopular proposal to replace daylight savings time:

We should all just be on GMT.

Local business hours would adjust (and could vary throughout the year). The last 20 years of tech advancements solve any potential coordination failures and in fact make coordination on GMT more efficient.

I refuse to answer this question on the grounds it may incriminate me.

But: One of the reasons I specialized in Industrial Organization and not trade was that grad level trade at UofC was only ever offered before 10am.

Good News: After researching parts and maintainance manuals I finally got an afternoon off to work on the pitman arm shaft seal (3591) on my 1963 Lincoln. The seal is in great shape.

Bad News: the seal was in great shape before I even started because the leak is coming from somewhere else (3B730).
