Awesome work done here in Physics at ANU.
Just launched my new personal website and I'm really happy with how it turned out π
I work on AI-integrated nanopore biosensors at ANU to detect diseases like Alzheimer's from a simple blood sample.

We are a rich enough country to be funding 37% of all basic research proposals, not just considering "the best" 37% and then maybe only funding 12% in the end.
Check out our new paper in Carbon on flash laser heating of glassy carbon up to 35 GPa doi.org/10.1016/j.ca...
We mapped diamond formation pathways near the triple point and found a richness in microstructures that surprise us (the aligned graphite plates stole my heart -see pic)!

ANU ducklings in a rainy day last week. They all ran towards the camera - honestly kind of terrifying! Look at those faces - they mean business. π
Autumn is just starting in Japan.
Big week in Matsuyama π―π΅ for AIRAPT-29! Honoured to be elected to the AIRAPT Exec Comm & to represent π¦πΊ at the ACHPR meeting. Pic from the conference dinner!
Also excited our new paper is out in APL-shear lowers Ge phase transformation thresholds with a reversible path!

They served green oranges at morning tea! They were a bit like a mandarin.
Very much enjoying being at a high pressure conference in beautiful Matsuyama, Japan this week. The region is known for its oranges- hence the logo of the meeting which is an orange / high pressure cell. 10/10 π

ANU physicists Prof @jodiebradby.bsky.social and A/Prof Bianca Haberl have developed a new method to make a rare form of silicon with remarkable properties.
It took a decade to get here: a lesson not to underrate the slow science.

Welcome to Bluesky Sasha! And well done for stepping up to run for council. @sasha-mikheyev-anu.bsky.social
I will be a strong and consistent voice that:
(1) makes sure the Council knows and acts on the realities of ANU staff,
(2) holds management accountable,
(3) implements genuine transparency in decision making, and
(4) insists on integrity and accountability.
I am running for the ANU Council. If you are a member of NTEU, please consider voting for me. Here is my platform, in brief:
I have worked in academic governance on three continents over decades, including six years in ANU College leadership.
