In a hotel room, a brick wall that has obviously had a huge hole repaired
Pretty sure the Kool-Aid man stayed in this hotel room once
If you're at the airport and Kristi Noem is doing the ominous little message from the TSA screens, you no longer have to do anything she says. Leave your laptop in the case, whatever.
The costs of this Iran war debacle will likely be more than the cost of extending the ACA health insurance subsidies.
If you asked Americans, which do you want: another war in the Middle East or lower health care costs at home, is the margin 90 to 10? 95 to 5?
Today should be your 38th birthday.. When you lose your son you lose more than a child you lose a piece of your heart and your joy. Life is forever altered, and nothing can ever fill that space. Yet in my soul, he remains, my precious boy, forever loved. His laughter, his smile, and his love are woven into who I am. My love for him will never fade. Yor are my pride and my joy - you've made a change that cannot be broken..

A good time for other AI companies to back the minimal safeguards cited by Anthropic. Remember the slogan #DontBeEvil?
That was a long speech, but short on real solutions to affordability, including on health care costs. President Trump's #SOTU showed a stark contrast between public promises to lowerβ―healthβ―costs and his actual policies of deliberate decisions to double premiums. #SOTU2026
Much to comment about the ending of the @SOTU honoring American history, but it makes me wistful, since the current Administration seems to be attacking what has made this country successful and special: our higher education and research system, our welcoming of immigrants, our common cause, etc.
SOTU fact check
President Trump's health plan isn't the one page of bullet points on the website, but pages of massive health cuts he signed into law.
The potential plan is to partially defray costs for those who choose lower-value high-deductible plans--literally paying more and getting less. #SOTU2026
Just to be clear, the attacks on immigrants are often attacks on our health care: #SOTU #SOTU2026

The so-called "war on fraud" seems to be more about attacking certain states for political retribution, and as an excuse to cut key health programs like Medicaid and the ACA. #SOTU #SOTU2026
If we want to lower prescription drug prices:
βοΈExpand Medicare drug negotiation
βοΈCap out-of-pocket costs
βοΈEnd price gouging
Build on the success of the Inflation Reduction Act. Letβs strengthen whatβs working, not distract from it. #SOTU
On the big bad budget betrayal, it cut Medicaid by over $900 billion dollars--harming health care costs, coverage, care, and our communities. Over 15 million more are estimated to lose coverage. Premiums have doubled just this January as a deliberate decision of the current Congress and President.
Just to be clear, "the largest tax cut in history"--mostly for the wealthy and corporations--were partially financed by ballooning the deficit and in part by the biggest cuts to Medicaid and the biggest rollback of health coverage in the history of the US federal government. #SOTU #SOTU2026
Until the hockey players showed up, he seemed low-energy, like even he didn't believe what he was saying. #SOTU #SOTU2026
Something that is "up, way up" from last year is health insurance premiums for people who buy coverage as individuals, who are now paying, on average, double--more than $1,000--for coverage. #SOTU #SOTU2026
When politicians assess the "state of the union," they focus on concepts like the stock market or on partisan fights in Congress.
But a more revealing measure tells us far more about the health of our country: the state of care.

Will be watching for what President Trump says on health care and health costs... #SOTU #SOTU2026
We love our vaccines;
preventive care, too:
They save money and lives,
more than a few.
Despite efforts to undermine them
in so many multiple ways,
They should be covered
without cost sharing or co-pays;

Roses are red,
Patients are blue,
to see their premiums spike,
now that the bill is due.
The Senate blocked action,
The President, too
to extend the tax credits
to help millions like you.

Chubby yellow animated hands hold a valentine card with a smiling train that says "I choo-choo-choose a working public health system, robust medical research funding, vaccines, and a non-eugenicist HHS"

Klein: People are afraid to come into clinics or hospitals because theyβre afraid theyβll be snatched. So theyβre staying home with acute conditions like appendicitis. Theyβre not going to their follow-up neonatal appointments. Theyβre allowing their jaundiced babies to go untreated.
Worth watching this in full. The statement is more powerful than this quote alone. Here is is from USA Today, with alt text.

What was your favorite SB commercial?
Mine were:
1. Liquid IV (talking toilets)
2. xfinity/Jurassic Park
3. Redfin/neighbors
4. Levi's/jeans
5. Dunkin (for the nostalgia)
Honorable mention: Movie ads, including Mandolorian & Grogu.
We know it's challenging to find access to affordable health care now that the enhanced tax credits have expired, and much higher premiums are now in effect for 2026 due to Congress' failure to act to protect affordable health coverage for millions of Americans.
Great to hear Sasha Abramsky talk in DC about his new book American Carnage, about the impacts of the DOGE cuts in the last year. Check him out later in NY this week!
