Founded in 2001, Instituto Sacatar is the longest continuously-operating artist residency in Brazil. Since its inception, Sacatar has awarded fully-funded residencies to over 500 artists from all artistic disciplines, coming from more than 70 countries.
Felipe Góes, a São Paulo-based Sacatar Fellow, has his work spotlighted by one of the country's most important newspapers, Folha de São Paulo.
The context for the press coverage is the opening of a group show featuring Góes at Nara Roesler Gallery, in São Paulo.

Sacatar fellow Rita GT will present a one-of-a-kind performance this Sunday, at the Art Museum of Bahia (MAB).
The performance joins women singers from traditional communities from Portugal and Bahia, looking at the colonial legacy and forms of resistance and resilience through music and jewelry.
Sacatar was featured in a special report by TV Band, one of Brazil's main broadcasters. The piece focuses on the breadth of Sacatar's impact across countries and artistic disciplines, while highlighting its local impact in the Arts and Education in Itaparica.

Sacatar took part in MICBR 2025, Brazil's biggest cultural-sector conference. Our ED, Felix Toro, spoke on the panel “How to insert Brazilian artists in the international circuit.” This marks an important step in Brazil’s recognition of residencies as key to advancing artists’ careers.
Sacatar Fellow Vírus Carinhoso performed at Itaparica's public school Colégio Estadual Ernesto Carneiro Ribeiro, this past Friday.

Sacatar joins the Year of France in Brazil!
The current session includes Sacatar's collaboration with the Fondation des Artistes, and hosts the launch of the Bahian chapter of I Am a Black Ocean, a transnational project connecting France, Senegal, and Brazil.

As part of the opening of the Bienal de São Paulo, there will be a performance by Hamedine Kane. Hamedine was in residence at Sacatar during the month of April 2025 to prepare for his installation at the Bienal. He bought two boats while in Bahia which he will have de-constructed for the Bienal.
The Museu de Arte Contemporânea in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, features Sacatar in the first exhibition in a series about regional artist residency programs, showing how artists' residency experiences dramatically transform their work and/or impact the local community.
