USA folk, you need to annoy these assholes as much as you can. this bill is not to protect children. they want to erase transgender people from public life and classify them as degenerate content in the internet. we will not be seen or heard. they want our *existence* to be a sex offense.

Justice Department publishes documents with sexual assault allegations against Trump The department shared FBI documents outlining allegations involving Trump.

Friendly reminder that the Kids Online Safety Act, or KOSA, would mandate invasive surveillance of everyone who wanted to see or share stuff like this that shows that Trump's a POS.

DEMAND YOUR SENATORS & REPS VOTE NO ON KOSA & VOTE NO ON HURTING SECTION 230.

A lobbyist who worked directly for Peter Mandelson, on the Palantir board, and on the board of *four* NHS trusts.

Lobbying the NHS to hand over even more patient data to Palantir.

This absolutely stinks. Get Palantir out of the NHS. Sign my petition:

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of age verification at account setup - NewsBreak I wonder how the government of California plans to enforce it?

Again, idiots from California want to age verify operating systems and has support of the governor. Takes in effect Jan 1, 2027. Add this to Assembly bill 1709 in your calls.

Post from Twitter/X by Bryan Lunduke (handle: @LundukeJournal).
Let's be reasonable for a moment.
Protecting kids against adult-only, online material (and services) *is* important.
But the current crop of laws, regulations, and actions are *not* good ways to accomplish that task:
- Bad Idea: New laws forcing Operating System developers to implement age verification into their systems.
- Bad Idea: Foreign governments fining US citizens for engaging in 1st Amendment protected Free Speech.
- Bad Idea: The FTC not enforcing COPPA laws to encourage online services to identify and catalog children.
Not only do those approaches *not* effectively protect children, they add a whole new set of legal and ethical issues (from 1st Amendment violations to privacy and personal data safety concerns).
In fact, in some cases, those attempts at "Protecting Children" actually make children *less* safe. (I'm looking at you, Federal Trade Commission.)

Continuation of the post from picture 1.
So, if actually protecting children from adult-only online material is important (and it is)... and all of those attempts listed above are bad ideas (they are)... how do we *actually* accomplish this important goal in a reasonable way?
Simple:
Improved (Optional) Parental Controls.
Not government mandated features and regulations...
But valuable features provided (optionally) by developers (both both local software, and online services).
- Activity monitoring.
- White and black-listing (system wide, with parental alerts).
- Parental approval of key actions (installing, be-friending / following, accessing).
- Content filtering (with parental alerts).
And, this is critically important: All optional.

Developers choose what to implement. Parents choose what to utilize and to what extent.
While some of these sorts of parental control features currently exist on *some* platforms... they tend to be lackluster, easily by-passed, buggy, and not wide-spread enough to be truly useful in protecting children.
Due to the currently pitiful state of software parental controls, most parents are left with two options:
1) Don't allow their kids to use modern computers (including smart phones) until they are 18 or...
2) Be ok with knowing that the available parental control tools are woefully inadequate... and their kids will be able to access adult-only content, with relative ease, on most platforms.
The solution is obvious.
The solution is *not* to push crazy ideas (like the UK's fining of US citizens for Free Speech, or the FTC's encouraging of COPPA violations)...
But, rather, simply improve the (optional) parental controls to the point where none of those insane, rights and privacy violating policies are even considered.

The power rests fully in the hands of the software developers to make this happen.
Microsoft, Google, & Apple: Your existing parental controls are, at best, barely functional. They are clearly after-thoughts, difficult to administer, lacking key features, and easy to bypass.
Linux & Open Source: Right now Linux (and other open source systems) are simply not viable for children due to the near total lack of quality parental control software.
X, YouTube & Online Platforms: If you know children (under 18) are going to be using your platforms, there are parental control features which could be implemented (which do not interfere with adult usage or privacy at all) to at least *attempt* to provide a safer experience for kids. Including "Following Only" feeds for minors, parental approval of all follows, content filtering (Grok powered?), and parental notifications.

I rarely ever agree with Bryan Lunduke, but he's 100% right here.

Age verification = surveillance. Look at the Discord data leaks. There's gonna be more where that came from. If KOSA and its kin make it to T-Rump's desk, the Internet is as good as dead.
