Nina Simone - Here Comes The Sun
Nina Simone - Here Comes The Sun YouTube video by Sonia Rodriguez-Ortega

Alright… listen up.

Sometimes the night shifts without asking anybody’s permission. One minute the room feels heavy… next thing you know there’s a little light sneaking in around the edges.

This one’s soulful optimism from a classic melody.

Yeah… that’s the feeling.

Reverend Jesse Jackson called on each of us to be heralds of change, to be messengers of hope; to step forward and say “Send me” wherever we have a chance to make an impact.

How fortunate we were that Jesse Jackson answered that call. What a great debt we owe to him.

Two dynamic action shots of American track and field icon Jackie Joyner-Kersee in competition.

Top image: Jackie mid-javelin throw in a stadium with orange seating. She wears a red-and-white top with bib number 578 on her chest, long hair pulled back. Her right arm about to drive the javelin forward, left arm across her chest, face lifted in fierce concentration.

Bottom image: Jackie clearing hurdles in rain during an outdoor track event. Water streaks across the frame as she leaps over a barrier in mid-flight. She wears a navy-blue USA with white and red accents, bib number 33 or 6 visible, white track spikes, and her hair pulled back. Her leading left leg extends straight over the hurdle, trailing right leg tucked, arms pumping for rhythm, muscles engaged, expression focused amid splashing rain and a blurred stadium crowd in the background.

The paired photos showcase her exceptional athleticism and versatility across heptathlon events, including javelin and hurdles.

DRC: Many killed in coltan mine disaster in east — rebels At least 200 were killed when mines collapsed at a coltan mining site in eastern Congo this week, rebel authorities say. The Rubaya mines, where the disaster occurred, supply a key metal for smartphon...

Every day miners in the DRC working under unsafe conditions with no protective gear, die so that we can have new electronic devices. A cruelty we all participate in willingly or not. It feels so hopeless 😔. How does one stop the cruel exploitation.

Dating from around 1865, this hooded parka from the Aleutian Islands in southern Alaska is made from seal intestines, a naturally waterproof & windproof material. Both robust & decorative, these seal gut parkas would have been used daily to keep warm & dry in this harsh environment.
