J aime bien ce tableau car le peintre a fait figurer la lรฉgende de la bataille navale dans cette feuille peinte dans un coin du tableau
This research is part of the first author, Takahiro Sugiyama sanโs PhD ! Iโm super grateful to have been able to contribute with my samples, and proud that we could deliver this teaming up worms and sea cucumber nerds ๐@miselab.bsky.social
It is indeed one species, with remarkable camouflage abilities !!! Please take a moment to marvel at their top level mimicry skills ๐ชฑ ๐ฏ And there is a ton more research to do to figure out how they do this, if they can change color when they switch hosts and so on!!
Because they have different colors and live on different hosts we suspected they could belong to different species, or perhaps be on their way to becoming different speciesโฆ so we looked at the similarity in their DNA to checkโฆ ๐งฌ๐งฌ๐งฌand DNA proved our hypothesis wrong!
Check out their super cute faces! Some color morph even match the aspect of sand grains on their host!
In coral reefs there is a very cool species of scale worms that lives on sea cucumbers! ๐๐ฅ They change colors according to the sea cucumbers they are living on.๐จ
Iโm super happy to share that our paper is out! link.springer.com/article/10.1...

I love how this little one looks like the photographer woke them up!

So much work!!! The picture is stunning
Phyllodoce lineata against a black background. The head (top middle-left) has a bright yellow main colour, turning more muddy towards the tip. There are 4 short antennae located at the front as well as 4 pairs of long "tentacles" (tentacular cirri), 3 of which point backwards, and 1 forwards. In the front half, the back of the body, which is segmented as in all annelids, is also yellow with 3 brown spots per segment (one in the center, 2 on either side at the base of the parapodia). This gives the worm a stripy look. In the back half, the worm is entirely brown. The bottom side of the worm is a light turquoise colour and slightly iridescent. On each segment, the worm carries to leaf-shaped appendages, sometimes referred to as paddles.
It is finally #WormWednesday again! ๐ชฑ
The perfect time to post my photo of this 40 cm long beast! :D

Pictures of a pink sea anemone sitting on top of a hermit crab shell.
Oh, I love this. A new species of sea anemone was discovered recently that parks itself on top of a hermit crab shell like a hat. It seems to feed partly off the crab's faeces, but it also excretes a hard shell that extends the crab's home. In return, it's carried around the seafloor like a king.
Omg thatโs gorilla chop!!!! Iโm a snorkel guide I was working there today!! I saw a group of people with a guy that looked like Ben Shirey. I thought thereโs no way must be a lookalike. It all makes sense now ! Wish Iโd say hello, Iโve been following you since I was an undergrad๐ฅบ

Vaga et al. (2025) reconstruct a time-calibrated phylogeny of stony (scleractinian) corals, which suggests that some could be resilient to climate change.

Spotted some snail art on a guardrail! These are the trails left by land snails as they move around. Snails have a radula, a tongue-like organ covered in tiny teeth, which they use to scrape moss and algae.
