Stoked to find a Dusky Warbler in the field on census @lundybirds.bsky.social I followed it up the valley after being drawn to a percussive tacking like call that wasn't a Blackcap in the overgrown Millcombe Pond. It then quickly ended up in a net! @birdguides.bsky.social @rarebirder.bsky.social

Nice @lundybirds.bsky.social recently. Also chuffed to have used short scrappy sound recordings to substantiate records of a fleeting, unseen Ortolan Bunting & the island's first Curlew Sandpiper since 2004 as it went south over the plateau, which had to be on the cards for this autumn...

My favourite images of the Buff-breasted Sandpiper are the size comparisons with accompanying birds. Tiny next to the Golden Plover!

Scanning the loch for Curlew Sand was my original reason for stopping in but I got a bit sidetracked ๐
Nice one.

Yes please Rob that'd be great. I don't think there's anything I'm going to be able to salvage from any of my underwing shots.

Cheers Andy! For my benefit, would you mind explaining which features you're using in these pics to say that with such certainty? (You are correct, per other observers in nicer light this pm).

What scale are you able to process them on? I could ask the rest of the team to send in any too, but don't want to potentially overwhelm you!

Would you like further PM feathers for genetic analysis? I'm also working on the survey and encounter plenty.

Quite light dependent, but hard for me to compare tbh Peter as I've not used a longer lens. If i was sea watching, i.e. pretty static, i think there's no reason not to have a larger camera if that's an option. I do use it looking at age/moult of distant eagles etc. Compact means always easy to take!

Flight shots get better as you move up from the canons to the nikon and then to the sony which is best, but more ยฃ. I think you'd probably be really pleased with a p900/950, lots of improvements from rx50, but find one in person to hold for size. Nikon P1000 not for your criteria, huge and chunky.

I started on sx50, on sony rx10 now. Loads of folk use p900/950 or the rx10. Despite still being bridge cams, size/weight increases noticeably from the sx50 which is just incredibly small and light. Not got any experience with the canon updates. @timjones-devon.bsky.social and I love our RX10s
