Watched some of that. Certainly aligns with my experience of Matt Ridley from X, Viral and his spectator/telegraph columns. As usual he takes his political point of view and his financial interests and shapes his ‘scientific understanding’ around them. A charlatan and a shill.

Douthat usually brings up, and pushes back on, the worst things someone has said (ex: Doug Wilson).
He didn't even mention the worst things Bhattacharya said, both on science + elsewhere.

1) He's interviewed people not on the right.
2) He's given pushback.
3) I'm fine with listening to political voices I don't agree with.
4) The issue here was that this was a matter scientific evidence, not just politics. And Bhattacharya was objectively wrong on that science.
Ross Douthat's 'Interesting Times' podcast is pretty good.
So it's sad to see him not sufficiently challenge Bhattacharya on Bhattacharya's misinformation.
