I've decided that if I ever get isekai'd into a fantasy world I have no choice but to be gay for the big anthros.

I will never do the work before arranging payment up front, at least to people with which I am unfamiliar. So even though I wasted several hours on a picture that will never ever be completed, at least I learned a powerful lesson.

"Never work for free expecting later compensation without contract"

They later explained they thought it was for free, and I expressed the honest opinion of feeling offended. Annoyed still I offered to negotiate for the price. "Tell me what you would be willing to pay."

The opening statement began with the two words: "Honestly, nothing"

Never.

Again.

Instead of answering the simple binary choice they said they wanted a 'color proof', and I thought that meant they wanted to see my other work, which I shared for comparison. Then they got real flaky, said they wanted to color it themselves... and thought I was charging too much. (It was $35)

This client gave me details on what they wanted in slow drips, and when I had reached a point I was confident in finishing the picture I brought up payment options, only to notice them skirting around the issue, up until I had reached a point of preparing a final pass and once again brought up pay.

I've finally learned my lesson today. After years of only asking for money for commissions after I've done some work on it (to assure I can bring it to completion without having things happen) a bad client finally cured me of that practice. I will only take money up front for any comms I take.

I didn't hate it as much as the general consensus because the action scenes were decently done (though they had a LOT of editing done). If I had to give it a rating, I'd give it a solid 5 out of 10. It's not egregiously bad, it's just lacking things because there was too much Jovoching:tm:

Overall it's not THAT bad but I feel like a world that is just centered around the world of Monster Hunter and nothing else would have perhaps held more value. I probably won't be seeing it again. There is a setup for a sequel; given the mixed reviews of this 6 year old movie, there probably won't.

I definitely remember this movie getting a pass from many people I know for being a big advertisement for the military but if you like schadenfreude the military got rekt in every scene they had a presence in, so it has that going for it. So much in the movie just doesn't get explained, though.

I would have preferred more growth, some actual lore dumping, more explanation from people about the world and how their society functions... but there wasn't any of that. It was just lots and lots of Mila Jovoviching and like, I guess that's cool if you like Jovoviching but if not, well...

The action scenes were pretty good, I thought. The monsters of the world of Monster Hunter are very terrifying and intimidating but watching the first 10 minutes of the film kind of quickly make you realize Mila Jovovich is the star of the movie and is going to win in the end by being Mila Jovovich
